Drs. Hibner and Conway
Drs. Hibner and Conway
Has anyone seen both Dr. Hibner and Dr. Conway to see if they gave different advice or had different approaches?
Re: Drs. Hibner and Conway
Hi Rimrock,
I talked with both before proceeding with surgery 6 years ago. They had (and I assume still have) a different surgical procedure. Hibner's is a little more invasive because he cuts open the ST ligament, but that approach gives the surgeon greater access to the nerve. I felt the greater access was much more important than avoiding a slightly more invasive procedure (I figured if I was going to do this, I wanted to do everything I could to ensure it was successful), so I went with him largely for that reason. Hibner also detaches the SS ligament from one side---the ischial spine side, I think---so it no longer crisscrosses the ST ligament, a place where the pudendal nerve is often entrapped. I'm not sure if Conway does that or not, but it makes a lot of sense. My recovery was not bad at all, so I had no regrets.
