Re: PGAD - persistent genital arousal disorder
Hi Shaela, I know one woman who went to physical therapy for a few months for PGAD and she has been symptom-free for 2 years. She never consulted a doctor about her condition as she lived in a very small town. Also Stephanie Prendergast and Elizabeth Rummer, two top PTs in the US who treat all kinds...

Re: PGAD - persistent genital arousal disorder
Wonderful news Nesssieee!
Glad that you got a few weeks off! Can you identify what you did to stay well for 4 weeks?
Keep up the progress, even if you get a flare now and then.

Re: PGAD - persistent genital arousal disorder
Hi Shaela, Pelvic floor physical therapy was very useful to me, but it was done while I was on Lyrica. The PT got better results when I was on medication because my nervous system wasn't as revved up. I still do about 1 hour of home physiotherapy exercises everyday to make sure I maintain my progres...

Re: PGAD - persistent genital arousal disorder
Sorry that you have had some discouraging times. It is extremely difficult to be aware of triggers all the time, and sometimes none can be identified so we don't know what might have caused a flare... I hear you. But, I think your doctor did have important advice, your age does help you recover fast...

More from Dr. Pukall
Q. Why are men not mentioned anywhere in the online survey first page?.... everything seems to be directed at women, when there are several men with PGAD as well? Dr. Pukall: We plan to study men with PGAD in the next online study that will likely start in the fall of 2016. We are looking forward t...

Re: PGAD - persistent genital arousal disorder
An MRI of the sacrum can show if there are Tarlov cysts pressing against nerves in that area. An MRN (magnetic resonance neurography) of the pelvis can show if the pudendal nerve has scarring. Both of these conditions can contribute to pgad symptoms.
