Walton,Liverpool

I have an appointment with Dr Chawla at the Walton Pain Centre next Tuesday. Can anyone tell me anything about it or offer any advice?

I'm having to stay over the nights before and after because of the distance travelling (from the Lake District) and fatigue.

Carbamazepine/Tegretol

Hi, I posted this on the pain meds forum but am copying it into UK for you all to read. May be difficult to persuade GPs to prescribe carbamazepine as it's not in the NICE guidelines for our type of neuralgia but it's definitely helping..... In UK, Carbamazepine isn't a recommended treatment for per...

Carbamazepine /Tegretol

I am in UK and Carbamazepine isn't a recommended treatment for peripheral or other neuropathy - which is probably the thread they follow for PN - but it is rec for trigeminal neuralgia. After failing with pregabalin, amitriptyline and nortriptyline, I asked for carbamazepine. I really didn't want ga...

Nortriptyline

Hi, I was started on Amitriptyline 10mg but it was so drying - I also have Sjogren's Syndrome which causes dryness itself. The other problem was that it stimulated me when I took it at night as directed. I experimented and found if I took it at 5pm then I could get to sleep. I was then switched to N...

Re: PAIN AFTER A BOWEL MOVEMENT

Hi, Has anyone considered candida? If you have antibiotics, your gut can have an overgrowth of the the candida organism which is normally balanced out by our friendly bacteria. These are killed by most modern broad spectrum antibiotics like the amoxil and cephalosporins. if you have candida overgrow...

Re: PAIN AFTER A BOWEL MOVEMENT

Hi, I have been away from the forum for quite while. My pain is definitely related to bowel movements and to peristalsis along the bowel. Up til now I have found that Colofac MR capsules every 6 hours (twice the usual dose) are helpful. They are antispasmodic. The MR is the long acting form and much...

Re: Pre Gabalin

Poppy, I've just seen your last post about Sjogrens. It is difficult, isn't it? My rheumatologist (Dr Wood) for osteoporosis, guessed I had Sj cos of the bottle of water I had to keep drinking to speak to her and tested for it - blood test - and I came back with 2 antibodies when one will diagnose i...

Re: Pre Gabalin

Hi all, I'm going on holiday so I thought I'd post how I'm getting on with the Pregabalin. The jump to 150mg a day was no worse and probably better than the incremental 25mg weekly. I still get a little woozy about 1 1/2 to 2 hours after I take it in the morning. I'm getting a bit of benefit. My hus...

Re: Pre Gabalin

Thanks for all your replies - especially, Calluna, for the dose recommendations. I had noticed that you had said that it went easier as you went up. Having started at 25mg daily and done only 25mg a week increase, seems to be the hard way - my Dr was concerned about the dryness, I think. I don't wan...

Re: Pre Gabalin

Thank you, Helen. I found the Control Panel eventually. It wasn't visible on my screen til I logged back in. Not sure where to put my medical stuff - put it in "Interests" - it's far from being an interest! Yes, I think it a bit unwise to increase the dose so fast but don't want to spoil m...
