Mythbusters

I was just watching an episode of Mythbusters where they just confirmed a myth that swearing increases your tolerance to pain. All I can say is that I would like to apologize in advance to my wife, my mom, the baby Jesus, my cat, and anyone else who happens to be around during a pain flare! Mmmm... ...

Alcohol. No, seriously.

Not trying to be funny or sound like a drunk but does anyone else get pain relief from tossing back a few drinks? I know many can't because of pain meds and others simply choose not to drink, but for those who do imbibe do you get relief? I get pretty consistent pain relief from alcohol, sometimes l...

Re: A rant and a toast...

HerMajesty: No problem at all! As an act of respect and solidarity I will be more than happy to have an extra drink for everyone who can't because their pain meds won't allow them to have one. Griff: I'm sure I'm an underwriter, but I'm not so sure I'm a man. I ordered a chair cushion from the IC ne...

A rant and a toast...

Dear Friends (or acquiantances if you prefer), What a week it has been. In one of my last posts I promised that the next time I had a beer I would drink to your health. Well here I am, Friday night, on the couch, with a nice cold one goin' down so I intend to make good on that promise. I would also ...

Re: Potential Pudendal Nerve Problem?

Hello Dr Joe. It sounds like you might have some involvement with the pudendal nerve but many other things can cause the symptoms you are experiencing. How long ago was your fall? Has the symptom severity changed since then? Standard MRI isn't effective at imaging the pudendal nerve and you pretty m...

Re: Hello/New Here

A's Mommy: Thank you so much for your advice and kind wishes. My way of thinking right now is that I need to go conservative as much as possible because even though I have bad pain sometimes I can still sit (using a pad to help prevent further nerve damage), work, do my own chores, etc. and surgery ...

Re: mental effects on pain?

I get that same kind of "nervous" feeling in my pelvis too, but it seems to be whenever I feel stressed and not just when I see something painful on TV or somewhere. Once again I thought I was crazy!

Re: Hello/New Here

Hello Steph- Thank you for sharing your story with me. I suppose that is another huge problem with PN, it imitates so many other things! I myself have been diagnosed with non-bacterial prostatitis, levator ani syndrome, proctalgia fugax, a "superficial" anal fissure, and pruritis ani. And ...

Re: Hello/New Here

No problem! Questions is why we are here right? Actually avoidance of sitting and using a sitting pad is new to me, sitting never seemed to actually cause the pain and only occasionally aggravated it. I just kind of figured if my butt hurts why wouldn't sitting on it make me notice more? Got to admi...

Re: Hello/New Here

Hi Stephanie- I mentioned the nature of my pain cycle to Dr. Antolak and asked what I should do about my upcoming appointment in Jan. if the pain goes away on it's own. He said to simply cancel the appointment. My guesss is that a nerve block would be pointless without any pain or other symptoms for...
