Dr. Hibner Pelvic Adhesion Surgery

Post by Emily B »

Dr. Hibner said that I need surgery to release adhesions in my pelvis/abdomen. This will be done laparascopically. Adhesions may included any of the organs in that area, including bowel. We won't know until we see inside. After the adhesions are taken care of, Dr. Hibner advised PNE surgery.

I'm considering have the adhesiolysis surgery locally so I don't have to travel to AZ. I'm wondering if Dr. Hibner would be better at this surgery compared to another doctor.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Emily B.

The advantage of having Dr. Hibner do the surgery is continuity of care but you should be able to find a really good surgeon where you live who could do the same procedure. I would imagine Dr. Hibner would do it with the DaVinci robot so that might be a question to ask whoever you might consider doing your surgery in your home town area.

Hey Emily,

I just had a pelvic laparoscopy last month to clean out endometriosis and adhesions. I had the surgery on a Wednesday and returned to work the following Tuesday. I felt completely 100% normal at two weeks post surgery. I can't comment on long term pain relief yet, but I wanted to let you know that truly, the laparoscopy was no big deal. It flared my PN/PFD stuff for about 8-10 days, but it really wasn't that bad.

You might just want to check exactly how Hibner plans to do your surgery: goals, procedure, methods, etc. Surely there is an experienced gyn surgeon nearby who could do this for you. Where are you located? I would look for someone who is experienced in minimally invasive surgery and who possibly utilizes the DaVinci robot. Not because you necessarily need robotic surgery, but it would mean they're on the cusp of all new surgical developments. However, I totally understand wanting Hibner to do it, too, so he would have the whole picture personally before PNE surgery. One other thing: I'm dealing with infertility, so I went to an infertility specialist (sometimes known as reproductive endocrinologists). They really know their stuff when it comes to endometriosis, so that's why I bypassed just my normal obgyn. Just a thought, if endo is a consideration for you.

Feel free to ask me any questions about laparoscopic pelvic surgery!

Take care,
Lauren

Hi Emily,

I am sorry to hear you may have to have two surgeries. I was wondering how does Dr. Hibner know you need surgery to release the pelvic adhesions? Just based on symptoms or a scan? Or maybe your history. Do you have a known history of endomentriosis?
-11/08 vulvodynia began around conception of first & only pregnancy
-3/10 sacral/sitting pain began after SIJD manipulation
-Progressive widespread pain- central sensitization
-PT, meds, injections, botox, ESWT = debilitated.
-5/12 Potter MRI - scarring of left ST, coccygeous & posterior alcock
-12/12 - left FAI/labral hip tear surgery
2014-2019 managed w/ gabapentin, massage, and lifestyle mod
2020 - big flare up

Hi, Faith. Dr. Hibner recommends adhesiolysis for me based on my physical exam and history.
