drymouth = dry vagina (pain pills, antihistomines)

Post by kat »

if this is common knowledge, forgive me, i just found out.

So any medication that causes drymouth will also cause dry vagina.
I was told to take Benadryle to sleep and i just figured out that was causing vaginal dryness.

As you know, dryness leads to pain and burning with us PNs so please be careful about what you take and be very aware of what causes drymouth.

Many pain pills cause drymouth as well, so if this is an issue for you try to find alternatives to what you are taking.

Good luck and pass it on please
Born with pudendal and obtorator neuralgia. 32 years of being misdiagnosed.
Surgery with Conway 7/14/10. Internal burning cured!
Currently in PT for many pelvic floor issues due to having PN for so long.

Hi Kat, long time no see!
Not sure that changing med regimens is necessary: Since dry vagina is common in post-menopausal women, there are topical OTC products available to combat it, sold in the same aisle with the tampons and yeast meds.
Hope you are doing well!
pelvic pain started 1985 age 14 interstitial cystitis. Refused medical care from age 17, did GREAT with self care for years.
2004 PN started gradually, disabled by 2009. Underlying cause SIJD & Tarlov cysts
improved with PT & meds: neurontin, valium, nortriptyline, propanolol. (off nortriptyline & propanolol now, yay!)
Tarlov cyst surgery with Dr. Frank Feigenbaum March 20, 2012.
Results have been excellent so far; but I won't know my final functional level for a couple of years.

This is a huge problem for females and is hard to combat to get a comfortable level of hydration in general and also vaginally.
There are many OTC preparations to ease vaginal lubrication, however some are more irritating than others. Some simple things like Olive oil can help with causing more discomfort.
As we progress in to Mature years.....the natural lubrication lessens so we need to help nature along the way.
PNE started 2003 following Vaginal Hysterectomy, pelvic floor repair and right oophorectomy; eventually after many tests had BilateralTG surgery Nantes 2004; following this tried many other treatments including 7 day epidural, ketamin infusions to no avail; Trialed and was implanted with a Neurostimulator in 2007- Dr Van Buyten Belgium, this has enabled me to manage my pain much better.
