Lenny, if you have pudendal entrapment then the nerve is entrapped and sitting on it can only cause you worse pain than you presently have - in fact you just wouldnt be able to sit at all. If you have pudendal neuralgia, then persistent sitting can lead to entrapment via irritation to the nerve and eventual scarring of it. This is why you have read DON'T SIT so often on this forum. Unfortunately there is no seating solution on the market, we all use donuts, coccyx cushions, ring cushions and the like to help sit for short periods. i've tried the kneeling posture chair but you still have to actually sit on it. I'd think the best solution for you as a computer engineer would be one of those adjustable rise and fall desks, where you can stand to work or sit when you want. Don't know the price of those, expensive I expect! Perhaps someone else on here knows. Have a look online ...
PN, possible entrapment at ischial spine -Dr.Natasha Curran, National Hospital for Neurology, London.
2 -Xray guided double nerve blocks -Dr.Baranowski - no relief.
TP self-massage reduced piriformis pressure on p nerve.
Dr.Greenslade/Bristol:
CT guided block (left) 16.7.12- success! Could sit without a cushion! On a brick wall!
06/2/13 - Sit pain gradually returned, L3. Offered further CT-guided block, or an op. Had to decline at time.

In North America, you can use the search term "height adjustable desk".
Athlete until pain started in 2001. Diagnosed with PN in Nov. 2010. Probable cause: 3 difficult labors, 5 pelvic surgeries for endometriosis, and undiagnosed hip injuries. 60% better after 3 rounds of shockwave therapy in Cornwall, Ontario (Dec - Feb/12). 99% better after bilateral hip scopes for FAI and labral tears (April and July/12). I had one installed at work and I was able to stand for about 2yrs 8-9hrs a day. I think this has contributed to my condition worsening, standing is now very difficult for me.

Thanks everybody, Pauls last comment confirms standing long periods not good either as well as sitting. So not only am i in bloody pain all day, i now cant sit or stand to do my job meaning no bloody income. Absolutely fed up!!!!!
So it seems the only job can do on my back is a male gigolo but even then penis pain after ejaculation would prob put paid to that. This illness really sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apologies, this wee guy has just had enough.

Lenny, everyone is different, because this nerve is long and splits 3 ways so your irritation or entrapment could be different from the next sufferer. First you need your diagnosis! Once you've found the source of your pain and whether or not you have PN or PNE, then you can take things from there. Hope your referral to Dr. deMello comes through soon. Incidentally, for me personally walking is fine and so is standing, though standing still for long periods is no fun and is tiring - but it doesn't contribute to my pain. With one of those desks for your work you can at least take it in turns to stand or sit throughout the day. Take a cushion too as hard surfaces make sitting worse.

Lenny can you do any work from home lying down? I had a set-up where I could move easily from standing, to sitting, to lying down. I guess by the end of several years even that started to have its problems but it got me through the worst of PNE until I could sit again. I'm not saying it was easy but it helped keep me from going insane.
PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Hi Lenny: If you absolutely have to sit you might want to look into getting a Roho Cushion - http://www.therohogroup.com/ These cushions are nothing like the doughnut ring. In my worst days of pain I couldn't sit at all - not even on a Roho Cushion. I only went to this type of cushion when I started to feel better. I'm only saying this so that I'm not misleading regarding my own use of these cushions. My personal opinion is that the Roho Cushion is designed so that you feel like you are sitting on air. Roho even makes a cushion with an indent that is sort of like what a toilet seat does for suffers with PNE. Realizing these cushions are not cheap it still might be worth your while to look into them.

A few of us here in Australia bought our Roho cushions online from the US. it comes with a hand pump so you can inflate or deflate according to your own comfort. .
Lennie, I'm Scottish too but live in Australia. Sitting is a major problem with this condition and it's best to limit your sitting time. Standing all day is not good either. I agree that you must try to alternate sitting, standing and lying down.

Are you seeing a PN specialist? Is there one in Scotland?
2004 PNE following vag. hysterectomy and A & P repair. 2007 TIR surgery France. severe entrapment at Alcocks canal & SS ligaments . Have my life back. 90% cured. No longer have medical appts.or physio. Some pain remains but is tolerable. 2012 Flew from Australia to the UK without pain flare. Very manageable. Almost back to normal. Now hold support group meetings at KEMH Subiaco Perth WA. Every 2nd Sat. of the month. Still pace my activities. PN doesn't dominate any more.

Lenny, insurance paid for a good portion of both of my roho cushions. You need to find out what local medical supply store your insurance is affiliated with and have your doc fax over a prescription for one stating that you need it for medical reasons/neuropathy. The medical supply store ordered the cushion and billed my insurance. At least that's how it worked for me but you should check with your insurance on what they would require.
