Hi P-M;
My experience with meds is this; All the heavy narcotics make me sick and only last an hour. I use Tramadol, not the all day one, and that usually either dulls the pain or gets rid of it. I had surgery in Nov. and when I was talking to Dr. Conway, he said Tramadol has a different make up than the higher narcotics. I'm using laymans terms, he was much more professional when speaking!!
I used 2, 100 mgs. every 6 hours. The med stays in your body and keeps a constant relief. Also, Tramadol is not as hard to get as Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Fental and all the other stuff. When I'm having a flare, I take 1 Valium Compound suppository. That relaxes the muscles and I believe loosens up the nerves.
Give it a try. It's not a very expensive med and if after a week, you find you don't like it, you're not out much.
I really need to post a surgery update. It just might help some others.
Best wishes;
Doreen

Once again, very many thanks to all of you who have made comments and suggestions. I'm going through everything with my wife, and am thinking about going back to my doctor with a request to give something a try. I'd like to hold off on medication, but the fact of the matter is I'm not getting better, but rather worse (I'll have to post an update elsewhere on the forum). At least I have an appointment now at Frenchay, Bristol, so something to 'look forward to'.

Thank you all again.

I am taking cymbalta for depression (which I had first) but also it has a pain relief side to it. My dosage is probably higher than what you would need, but like I said, my first issue was depression and anxiety. My gynecologist suggested I try it. I have had no issues with it at all. Very pleased actually.

I think my GP decided we would start at the bottom with medication, see what works or what causes side-effects, and work up from there. My first medication has been Cocodamol (a hefty mix of paracetamol and codeine). I tried it for a few days, felt a bit dopey, but can't say I gained much relief. I think perhaps other aches and pains (some caused by living with this condition) were relieved somewhat, but not the central pain on sitting.

Perhaps a pain killer like this might be OK to help with a long journey or similar, but I cannot imagine taking such a thing long-term(?).

Pausing, somewhat uncomfortably, for reflection.

Relief to all
