Spinal manipulation

Post by alexm »

Hi Guys and Gals,
I was just wondering if anyone knows why in France (where I live) there seems to be a clear message telling us to avoid Spinal manipulation (cracking) by osteopaths and chiropractors? I have an osteopath (who seems to understand NP) here who would like to try to help but all these interdictions have put the frighteners on me.

Thanks,
Al
I'm 37. Pain started suddenly in 2005 after heavy physical work. Had a two year period without pain between 2007 and 2009. Pain came back 2010 (too much yoga) and I finally got a diagnosis. Too many cortisone shots! No long term relief.I Don’t take many meds as pain rarely goes above 3 or 4. 2mg of valium once or twice a month. Recently diagnosed with bilateral fai and labral tears. Right side hip scope in July 2013...Second left side scope planned for later in the year...

Not sure why they are saying that, Al. I know from my own experience chiro and osteopathic manipulations did not help and one of the chiro treatments made my back worse (not pudendal). I specifically told the chiro not to crack my back but she did it anyway and ever since I wake up in the night with burning pain. I just don't like the seemingly uncontrolled force put on the musculoskeletal system. So why did I go to one? -- desperation, really.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

I really think it depends on the chiropractor. My first chiropractor was ok but told him there was one manipulation he did that was making me worse. Since he didn't listen I found a new chiropractor and she is fantastic. She is extremely gentle and it took her over 1 year to get my hips into reasonable alignment. Getting my hips into alignment did help my piriformis syndrome. Like everything else i\most times it depends on the health professional who is treating you.
