symptoms of successful nerve block?
symptoms of successful nerve block?
what are the sensations I would get if a pudendal nerve block was sucessful? Is the area numb? Or does the pain just go away? Will there be any feeling? When does it wear off? Will I know if I have to pee? Will the clitoris have any sensation? Will sex be ok? I never thought of these questions in the dr. office.
Re: symptoms of successful nerve block?
For me the pain just went away but did not last longer than an hour or two but that was a definite sign that the pudendal nerve was the problem and source of my pain. I have seen different that others have mentioned numbness so maybe theycan and will respond with other answers as well. Good luck.

Re: symptoms of successful nerve block?
Chex, my understanding of a good nerve block is that you will lose sensation In the distribution area of the PN -- the saddle area. If that happens and it relieves your pain it is considered diagnostic for pudendal neuralgia. But I think the reality is that nerve blocks aren't an exact science because the medication can wander to other areas and there are variations in pudendal nerve anatomy. From my experience I had partial relief of pain and a feeling of numbness in part of the saddle area and partial sensation of urinating. The medication wore off within a few hours.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
