Having a ilioinguinal nerve block
Has anyone had one? How was it done? Did it help? My pelvic pain specialist is doing it-- in her office. I don't think it is guided but she does them all the time. I have never heard of anyone having a bad reaction in her office. Any advice would be helpful. thanks,

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

I am "one of the gals who posted in that thread" that Violet linked to. I had mine done at a local pain clinic. It's been a while, so I don't remember all of the details anymore. It was basically just an injection of anesthetic and steroid into the groin area, not guided, but based upon my indication of where the pain was and the doctor's knowledge of anatomy. If I remember right, he may have actually injected 2 or 3 spots along the course of the nerve.
My first one didn't do much. I ended up switching doctors (within the same clinic) and gave it another try. I did have success, but relief only lasted 2-3 weeks. It at least proved to be diagnostic, and led me to have cryoablation of the ilioinguinal nerve with longer-lasting effects.
I'm happy to try to answer any other questions you have. PM me if you want...I don't always check the boards as often as I used to.
