What is the consensus here? Has this ever helped anyone? I have nerve compression in my spine and nothing has worked so far to help it (pt, etc). I was considering doing this procedure as I feel I have run out of options.

1/12 90% Better after Pelvic Floor PT and 10 mg of Elavil

4/12 MRI showed Labral Tears in both hips
4/12 Hip Injection with Dr Jordon -- some improvement
7/12 FAI and Labral repair Hip Surgery, Dr Coleman, HSS, 10/12-3/13 99% better!

Ultra Sound in 03/08 showed severely retroverted, detaching uterus with mulitple fibroids and ovarian cysts.
Pressure and pain in lower abdomen and groin area was unspeakable and devastating.
Total lap hysterectomy in 06/08, but damage was already done.
EMG testing in NH in 04/10 - bilateral PN and Ilioinguals
3T MRI at HSS, NY in 09/10
Bilateral TG surgery with Dr. Conway on 03/29/11. Bilat ilioinguinal & iliohypogastric neurectomy 03/12. TCD surgery 04/14.
Pressure and pain in lower abdomen and groin area was unspeakable and devastating.

Thanks, I actually think I am going to do it. I am going to HSS to one of the top physiatrists and I am not worried. I know people who this has helped. I think a lot of the negative press is from doctors who don't know what they are doing.

Beverly, I would be interested to hear how these injections work out for you. It's kind of the same with PN nerve blocks -- most people don't get complications so hopefully you will be fine and you will have some relief.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

I had an epidural at L5/S1and it significantly reduced my radicular pain (pain radiating down my leg) and has helped improve my pelvic pain (which is coming from my spine). I did it at HSS in NYC and had a great experience. I think some of the bad press is from Doctors who don't know what they are doing. Do your homework before having one done!!

Beverly, I'm glad to hear the epidural went well for you. It is a procedure that helps in many cases but the important thing is to know the risks before you have one and go to someone who uses image guidance.
My understanding is that some people have a reaction to the steroid or possibly the preservative in the steroid so I'm not sure it can always be avoided even if the procedure is done correctly. I think arachnoiditis is a pretty rare complication but it can happen. Although....actually, if you look at the article reviewing the literature it may not be all that rare (6-16%).
