Will i suffer from erectyle dysfunction? Help!

Post by malato »

Hi
My name is Angelo and i am 19 years old. From Portugal and new here.
For two long years i have been suffering from a light form of PNE. I have almost no pain (only when i ride a bicycle or sit for more than two hours at college).
Right now i have no erection problems or any kind of numbness in the penis or scrotum.
I am perfectly healthy and have no physical limitation.
The only thing that is ruinning my life is the progressive muscular tightness that i have been suffering since i got this debilitating condition. The stress is killing me (i am afraid every single day). I don t want my girfriend to be with me if i get permanently impotent.. Will i get irreversible erectyle dysfunction? Is there any way i can avoid it and live my life with this condition? I know not many men suffer from this..
Doctors in Portugal only diagnose the condition by your symptoms. There are no treatment options or specialised physicinans (that i know of).. Please help and advise me! Since i am quite young, should i try any surgical approach before it all gets worse?

Malato,

Please try to relax and decrease your stress. This may help with your muscle spasms. Have you seen a physical therapist for this? Maybe your doctor will let you try some muscle relaxers. I don't think you should be considering any surgery at this time. Give yourself some time to heal. Also, I strongly suggest discontinuing riding your bicycle as that may be contributing to you discomfort and symptoms. Maybe that will be enough to reduce or even eliminate your symptoms.

Take care,
Stephanies
PN started 2004 from fall. Surgery with Filler Nov. 2006, Dr. Campbell April 2007. Pain decreased by 85% in 2008 (rectal and sitting pain resolved completely), pain returned in 12/13. Pain reduced significantly beginning around 11/23.

I have not, simply because college is expensive and to see urologists, neurosurgeons and to make the tests is just too much. But i probably will in the future.
I know there are many people much worse than me.. But since this condition has hardly any cure, it is almost like if your doctor told you: "you may be able to walk next year, but you also may not.."
Any way, thank you so much for the advice. I still hope there will be a miracle and i will get better..

Hi Angelo,

Lifestyle changes are a good place to start. You could read KrisG's story in the personal stories section of the homepage at www.pudendalhope.org and see how he recovered. There are risks associated with surgery.

If you can get some proper physical therapy to help you with pelvic floor relaxation techniques and myofascial release that's also a good idea, but make sure the PT knows what they are doing. You could also try the mindbody approach. Some people say it works for them. Ezer has posted quite a bit about it.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
