Hi Edwina
I understand. My son lives on the edge of York. It is a 6 train hour journey from here which i have yet to do to go and see him.
Would a flight be of any use ? I have just looked and there seem to be flights between Leeds Bradford and Southampton. Don't mean to be pushy in any way as it all may be too much on your own. My husband drove me to Ruth with me lying in the back of the car after sitting became too much after a while.
There is also a physio listed on here who is in Edinburgh. http://www.pudendalhope.info/node/60#UK_and_Ireland
I have never seen much written about him on this forum though.

Thanks Aristocrat for your thoughts. There are so many pathways to this problem. I've read so much. I do realise that tension and anxiety play a big part to shortening and tightening your muscles and over the yrs I have clenched this area pretty tight having suffered with OCD as well. Before this last injury I was trying to lower my meds but now the pain has increased so much. Edwina

Hi Rosemary that's so nice of you to have looked that up. I didn't know that there was an airport at Southampton. It is something to bear in mind but on your own and sitting is so painful now well you know what I mean. Since I first read about vulvodynia and then pudendal neuralgia I was horrified but I managed to console myself with I could still sit reasonably and get out without too much after affect. But now it seems to get worse as I try to carry on so this is my worst nightmare! So I'm in panic mode all the time, mm not good. Edwina x

Hi Edwina
All i can now suggest is that you do Anything that can take your mind away from feeling panicky.
I am rarely on this forum now as i have done as some have suggested on here and stopped looking for answers and reading about PN and pain. I've read loads on it as you do when searching for an answer. I've exhausted who i can and am prepared to see about it. My GP hasn't got the tools in her toolbox for me as far as i'm concerned now.

I try and make sure that i do something positive each day but if things are really bad i allow myself that day. Tiredness affects me most. I find that i can't deal with the pain as well then. My brain though is in a better place than months ago when the pain was ruling my life. More things get done. We look after one grandchild one night and day a week that has helped me but i couldn't manage it alone. We started listing things on Ebay in order to move and downsize. My husband does the photos i do the rest. Anything, anything. The burning pain is in the background all the time but it varies and can lessen.

I made myself a couple of U shaped cushions to sit on out of two draught excluders that i got in TK Max. I bent them to a U shape and then used some strong webbing around each end and sewed the webbing all around the ends to hold the U shape in place.Sew one end first then pull the webbing to the other end and sew.The draught excluders were more padded than any doughnut cushion i have bought and they have lasted. I bought another draught excluder last winter that i have yet to sew to replace my original one which is now a bit squashed. I have a large Gisela Graham colourful shopping bag that i put the cushion in if i have to use it when out.

I don't know what else to say really. I hope that your appointment with the colorectal specialist goes well and he can give you some answers.

Hi Rosemary, I was lucky that you popped by today. I totally understand why you don't come that often. Your cushion sounds very nice. I do read a lot when I'm going through a crisis. It sounds that you are in a good place at the moment and managing to the best of your ability. Hope to get there myself. Take care Rosemary (nice name). Edwina x

Late Owl,

What kind of cream did you try? If you haven't tried it maybe you could try some nitryglycerin ointment, especially after BM's. Some people find that valium pills or valium suppositories inserted rectally help. You could also try alternating hot/cold sitz baths for temporary pain relief when you are feeling particularly awful. Have you tried anusol suppositories or hydrocortisone cream?

Aristocat, I agree that antidepressants are strong medications but lexapro was a life-saver for me when I had PGAD. It took away about 75% of the symptoms until the pudendal nerve was healed enough after surgery to go off of medication. It also significantly helped the bladder problems I was having.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Hello Violet, thanks for calling in. I have had a steroid cream and then the nitroglycerin but I couldn't tolerate it. The pain is agony so I think it must be to do with the nerves.....very worried. Edwina x

I'm in an awful amount of pain could anybody advise me on what medication to ask for here in the U.K. Saw the colo-rectal surgeon, nothing was found he's going to fob me off with the cream Diltiazem. Think he's stirred things up cause it is so painful around the anus sore and stabby needles if you touch it. My muscles at the bottom of the vagina remain tender and stingy internally. Nearly passing out from all this pain. Really could do with some advice as I feel nobody around here has a clue. Thank you, Edwina x

I don't know any other medications to suggest. You could try sitz baths to calm down the pain. That's what I used to do when I was going crazy. You can see how I did them at the following link: http://www.pudendalhope.info/forum/view ... =25&t=5267

I sleep with an electric heat pad and it helps with the anal burning. Worth a try.
