You can't go wrong with walking. make your pace brisk. Start with 20-30 minutes and see if you can build up to 45-60 minutes per day. Also, you got to stretch everyday and lengthen and strengthen all important muscles like the psoas muscle, piriformis, hip flexors, multifidas, hamstrings, and gluteus. Eventually, the exercising and stretching starts to work real well. You need at least afew months of steady exercise. Also, keep your weight low, takes pressure off everything.....BG

Hi Brian,
what I don't understand is that in the last month (after having begun this therapy with Lyrica) walking became really annoying.
Before this therapy I haven't any symptom when I walked. Now I feel complaint in the perianal area when I walk, especially if I walk quickly.
I feel like there's drawn wire.
It's really really strange, since I used to run without any feeling in the perianal area before starting this therapy.
Since this reason I'm not very much into exercising.

I'm still worried my problem is not nerve related but I don't really understand what it could be.

Generally walking is considered an "OK" exercise for people with PN/PNE but during the worst part of my PNE journey I could not walk very well. It caused severe pain in the right perineal area and I limped with the leg on that side dragging. I can't explain why this occurred but since I have recovered from PNE surgery I have no problems with walking.

Good luck with your upcoming appointment, Goldmund.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Dear Violet,
I'm coming back for a short update.
Pregabalin (Lyrica) helps a little but I realize that every time after a defecation itch and burning comes back the same.
It's like pooping triggers all the pain. Is it possible? Is there any solution?
My doctor last week increased Lyrica to 150mg twice a day.

Hi Goldmund,

Yes, I have heard that from other people -- having a BM really stirs things up. Some people get in a hot tub of water afterward to get the muscles to relax. You could also try rectal valium afterward to calm the muscles down.
