Has anyone had surgery with Dr. Conway?

Post by Hiking Spider »

Hi everyone,

I'm considering having surgery. I met with Dr. Conway last month, he has recommended surgery. Has anyone had surgery with Dr. Conway? How did it go? What were the limitations after surgery? How long were you in the hospital? Does he put in a pain pump? TIA.

I can't think of anyone I know who had surgery from Dr. Conway recently. Sorry, I can't answer your questions but Dr. Conway is pretty good about answering things, at least from what I've heard. Do you have your surgery scheduled yet?

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

I don't have a date as of yet, I need to be absolutely positive surgery is the way to go. I'm scared of another surgery! I will be meeting with him again in a few weeks to answer more questions.

Good luck with your appointment. You are smart not to rush into surgery and to consider all of your options. You can do a search on Dr. Conway's name in the upper right corner and see what other patients have said about him.

Yes, I had surgery 3/29. It's only been a couple of of months so I really can't say yet. The pain levels have been high and referred pain as well. He said it will take 6 months before I see improvement and up to 2 years for the nerves to heal. That seems like an excessive amount of time to me. Staying hopeful though.

Has anyone had tailbone, lower back and hip pain after surgery? Did it go away, how long did it take? TIA.

Thanks for the reply spider and the update. Its still early in the process for you so give it time. So he did a decompression of the pudendal nerve, all the branches? Did the doc say where the entrapment was?

I wish you the best and thanks once again for keeping the forum updated. I may end up seeing Conway as well as the doc in Baltimore is not working out.

My entrapment was at the Ischial Spine.

I suppose everyone's plan of surgery is different based on where you feel pain. If you meet with him, he will explain what he thinks and how he will address your surgery. Plan on a 6" incision down your back side.

That doesn't sound like an excessive amount of time based on my own experience. I continued to see improvement for several years after surgery. I had some lower back pain due to SI joint dysfunction from chronically strained ligaments. Prolotherapy helped it. I had some tailbone pain if I sat on it too long but no hip pain. Overall pain levels were high after surgery but it slowly started to subside. Hope you start to see improvements soon.
