Hi,

Was the cystitis confirmed with a urine culture? Pudendal neuralgia can be triggered by a urinary tract infection, but the symptoms of pudendal neuralgia can be the same as cystitis (minus blood in the urine) when there is actually no bacteria present in the culture. It's just helpful in figuring out the cause of PN if you know for sure whether the culture showed a bacterial infection. My initial symptoms felt like a yeast infection and then a UTI but I didn't actually have either of them.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Hi,

Like Violet, my early symptoms of PN felt like both a yeast infection and a UTI. I had the feeling of constantly needing to urinate and medication was able to help with the acute phase of that symptoms as it did calm down quite a bit for me after a few months. Do you have any other PN symptoms such as pain in the vulva/perineum, anus, labia, or clitoris?

PN started 2004 from fall. Surgery with Filler Nov. 2006, Dr. Campbell April 2007. Pain decreased by 85% in 2008 (rectal and sitting pain resolved completely), pain returned in 12/13. Pain reduced significantly beginning around 11/23.

Dear Violet,

Sorry i didn't see your reply before. It was a real UTI with blood, and doctor gave antibiotics as usual. UTI finished like that. But it left its place a horrible burning feeling. First doctors thought that it was IC but they refused it after Cystoscopy. In fact, my pathology report revealed chronic cystitis, edema in the mucosa and excessive veins. Despite this, the diagnosis was not IC. The last doctor I went to was sure that it was pudendal neuralgia because he stated that my pudendal nerve hurt on palpation but there was no problem with my bladder. Blocks and botox were done, it didn't work. I have a strong burning sensation in one spot rather than pain. I don't know what to do. :( My periods are getting closer and the pain is getting worse. Hi Asnaz,

You can edit your post if you want to remove the extra lines.

When you had the pudendal nerve blocks, did the anesthetic in the block give you several hours of relief, or even partial relief? That is one of the ways pudendal neuralgia and pudendal nerve entrapment are diagnosed. I understand they didn't help but they often don't give long-term relief. The important consideration for a diagnosis is whether they gave any temporary relief.

Are the excessive veins in the bladder itself? I'm not sure what the treatment for that would be. If they are pelvic veins that are accessible it might be somewhat treatable.

There are some medications that help with burning pain. Have you tried any medications yet? If the spot that hurts can be reached, you could try using topical ointments on it too. Heat or ice may provide some temporary pain relief.

I'm sorry, it sounds really frustrating not to be able to find a diagnosis that is has a treatment. Pudendal neuralgia can cause urinary symptoms and burning but I don't know if that's what's going on with you. Wishing you the best as you try to figure this out.
