Nerve blocks - if they are successful - will give pain relief for a while. If this happens, it confirms the diagnosis, that the problem is with the pudendal nerve. Sometimes there is increased pain after that, for a few days or hours, sometimes there is not.

Often they put a steroid in the injection as well, the idea is that this will help to reduce inflammation and help healing long term. Some doctors seem to get good results with this, others do not.

Where to give the injection, and where is the entrapment - blocks are usually given through the muscles of the buttock, but can be given through the vagina sometimes. Neither one is better for different places of entrapment, it is just the choice of the person doing the injection, according to my understanding.

Other meds - I suggest asking the doctor who will be doing the block, ask what they want you to do. Maybe ring their secretary?

Pisama, sometimes the blocks make you worse but usually it is temporary -- this risk is not great but there is a small risk. If you think you might eventually need surgery then yes, you will have to try some nerve blocks but if you are feeling a lot better maybe you just want to try being careful and see if you will heal without trying any procedures that could make you worse. It's a difficult decision.

Best wishes,
