Youre right caluna, I have not realy given lyrica or gabapentin proper dosing. I only take eiher one and one tablet a day . Ihave not seen tis new jdr. yet at all. my reg. dr. gave me the above meds but he told me to see apain specialist, maybe I am wasing my time spenind all this cash on this pain specialist.

I really think what i have is from the hysterectomy i got done back in 2008/9. same symptoms upon going home th same day, same place.

I cannot hold my urine muscles so I have to pee straight away cos it brings on the stinging, and sitting well thats a nighmtmare. Even it i wipe myself it brings on the sharp stiinging.

are there any top drs. in the uk that treat PNE or nerve stuff and are also top obgyn surgeons that may know or help me?

Well I am waiting on a call back from HIbners office but hey take so long a week or two weeks before you hear anything after you leave a message...I guess they must be inundated with calls..I wish someone would call just to say they got my message instead of me hanigng around like this---upseting and frustrating...... anyway still waiting.

Which is better gabapentin or lyrica for nerve pain. I cant take both but I need to try one?

Hi again lexie - the doctors here in the UK who have an interest in PN are listed on the homepage. I don't think any of them are gynaecologists or obstetricians.

With regard to which is better, gabapentin or pregabalin/Lyrica - the answer is that it depends what suits each particular person. Many people get on brilliantly with gabapentin, but others get on better with pregabalin/Lyrica.

You say that you can't take both - where did you get that from? Yes, it is unusual, but if that's what your doctor has told you to do, then that's precisely what you should be doing.

And I can't emphasise it too strongly - please don't change your meds without consulting your doctor. Please stick to the dosages and the timings that you've been prescribed.

Both pregabalin/Lyrica and gabapentin/Neurontin are anti-convulsants, if you stop taking them or reduce the dosage too fast then you are at risk of having seizures. So please take your meds according to your doctor's instructions - these are not meds to take as and when you feel like it, usually the dose is carefully adjusted according to each individual's response.

Perhaps a good idea to go back to your doctor for a medication review?

Lexie,

I thought I was going to lose my mind until I got my dose of gabapentin to 2400 mg a day. I take a 600 every 6 hrs. I set my alarm for my dose at 1 am. Started out 100 3x a day by pain management. One neurologist upped me to 600 2x a day. Pain management got upset that she had raised me so fast. It needs to be done gradually but I was in so much pain that he even upped me again to 1800 for a month and then 2400. I only take one loricet a day unless I've traveled to see a doc then I have to take 2.
Have you seen a urologist? Do you have a steady urine flow, dribbling, etc.? I had uretha distension about 2 months after pn started and because of bladder not empyting correctly and I had no idea. Just that I had to pee 20 times a day. I burned like crazy in the urogenital area. I don't drink coffee or soda now and that helps a lot with peeing.
