I've never heard or read a plausible explanation as to the mechanism involved in pgad caused by discontinuing SSRI's. I don't think anyone knows for sure -- or even if it's really due to SSRI withdrawal.

Lindsey-
Gaba is a inhibitory neurotransmitter- see the following link.

Violet-
Thanks for that. Can I ask how your doctor found out that your condition was caused by nerve entrapment? Did you do nerve induction tests? I myself have some coming up.
thanks

Partly based on history of weightlifting, pelvic exam with tenderness along the course of the nerve, pain in the distribution area of the PN, pain much worse on one side, and response to nerve blocks. There weren't as many other options back then when I had surgery.

I had the pnmlt before surgery. The side with less pain actually had a worse score than the painful side and the scores were borderline. It only measures motor conduction so I don't see it as extremely accurate. What you are having done might be different though. Good luck. ;)

It seems those supplements are for the PGAD symptoms, not sure if they are for nerve pain also.
From the PharmaGaba website:
PharmaGABA is a natural form of GABA manufactured by a fermentation process using a Lactobacillus bacteria – the same kind of bacteria used to ferment vegetables, cheese, wine and other traditional diets. The bacteria are fed nutrients, including glutamic acid from sugar cane, to produce a high level of GABA that can then be concentrated through a filtration process.

Good that it is a natural form, doesn't seem to have side effects- It says in a lot of Japanese food also so maybe worth trying?.

Thanks- I haven't been told what type of nerve test it is, but maybe it is the pnmlt. Strange that your nerve entrapment was not picked up by the tests- I guess they can be inconclusive.. I personally don't have pain, only PGAD symptoms.

Hello,
I posted under another topic a while ago. I am pregnant with pgad caused I assume by the use of seratonin blocking meds for the treatment of Hyperemesis, or injury from muscle wastage.
I pm'd lucysky and asked her if she had found any relief and she said the amnitriptalyne (sp) has helped her a lot. I hope she won't mind me sharing that, it's just good for others to know what could work.
I'm interested in suplements as treatment. I do PF therapy which eases the spasm but not the clitoral throbbing. Does anyone else have a pgad 'cycle' where you have a low symptom day and it builds over a week or so then peaks only to start the cycle again? I can't figure out why it does this, it's got to be a clue somehow. At the moment I'm taking Vit B for nervous system health, magnesium for spasm and zink and copper for anxiety. I find lack of sleep my main trigger. I'm so screwed when this baby arrives.
Rowie.

Rowie, some women have posted that their pgad is worse around the time of their period but since you are pregnant I'm not sure how that would apply to you. Hopefully once your baby is born this particular symptoms will calm down for you and you will be able to enjoy your newborn. I had some relief of symptoms with a tricyclic antidepressant but I couldn't take the side effects due to a history of thyroid problems. I hope the amitriptyline works for you.

Best,

Violet

Hi Lindsey,

Yes, I have a cream with 5% Lidocaine and 6% Gabapentin, which is what has helped my PGAD the most. I apply it twice a day whenever I need to. Starts to work within minutes for me, & lasts several hours.. Everyone's different tho, so ask your doc if (s)he thinks it would work for you. Best of luck.. It's not an easy row to hoe..

DES,
Just wondering, do you believe that this combo reduces your symptoms by 50% or better? Just wondering if I should ask my doctor about it. Thx
