Numb genitals, nerve damage?

Hello everyone,

In 2019 or early 2020 I discovered that my genitals are numb and sought help from the urologist and neurologist. I also sought help with pelvic floor therapy to rule out problems in that area, and tested my testosterone, which came back fine. None of them know what's going on, or what caused it. The urologist says he cannot measure these nerves and says that the feeling may return within two years. but it hasn't come back.

Both my testicles and the right side of my penis are completely numb to the touch, while I still feel a little bit of a touch on the left side of my penis, I can't feel temperature.
For your information, I am not on drugs, medication and have not masturbated in over two years because my libido has dropped significantly because of this and I wanted to allow my nerves to heal.

I kind of accepted it, but would like to know exactly which nerve is damaged leaving both my testicles and penis completely numb. Strangely enough I only feel and have temperature sensation in the top of my foreskin, is the foreskin connected to another nerve?

Thank you.

Hey! A few questions:
- How old are you?
- Did you have any injury or trauma to your penis? Any injury to your pelvic area?
- Any pain ever?
- Do you have Hard Flaccid?
- Do you have soft glans? (where the shaft of your penis gets hard in an erection but the glans stays softer than before)
- Is your ejaculation weaker than before?
- Do you have sensation in your glans? Or are your glans numb?
- Any erectile dysfunction? Do you still get morning wood?
- Can you still have sex?

Hello @benraycamp0

I am 34 years old and have never had a trauma or injury to my penis or pelvic area. I worked in an office where I had to sit a lot, but I always tried to take as many breaks as possible and walk regularly. As far as I know I have had two unprovoked shooting pains from my anus to my penis which didn't last long while I was working in the office respecting good sitting position. I also had severe pain in my testicles when I was aroused for too long, what I've been told is epididymal hypertension, but that's a thing of the past now.

My penis can get and stay hard, but I never noticed how soft my glans was before, but the right side of my glans is completely numb. I only have a little feeling on the left side of my glans, especially the edge of it. Although I can still ejaculate, my ejaculation is noticeably weaker than before and seems watery at times, which is a major concern for me. I sometimes have morning wood, but not as much as I used to, maybe it's because I'm getting older. As far as I know I don't have erectile dysfunction, but I do notice that my penis stays hard long after my ejaculation, this was not the case before.

Thankfully I can still have sex but my libido has dropped significantly where I used to get aroused from watching adult videos and pictures a bit before my genitals got numb, now it doesn't bother me anymore. Sometimes I don't feel anything during sex. It takes me at least more than a week to feel sensitive enough to enjoy sex.

Both my testicles and parts of my crotum are completely numb, the right side of my penis is also numb not only on the surface but also on the inside, maybe if I squeeze the skin really hard between my nails I feel a dull ache.

I have consulted the urologist and neurologist and searched the internet for the past two years but have never been able to get an answer, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately I have not been able to get an answer from anyone, not even from specialists. All it's been for me is, "we don't know what caused it, just learn to live with it".

I just want to know exactly which nerve is damaged.

Hello Pentarou,

I just read your post…I have problems very similar to yours :( I did a post a couple of years ago in the german part of that page. I tried a lot of things and visited a lot of doctors, but the same as you wrote: nobody of them have an idea what it could be. They checked the pudendus nerve even twice by SSEP but there were no problems as a result. The only thing they can say: learn to live with that, exactly as you described.
When did the problems start for you, years go? Did it change in any way over the time, getting better or even worser?

Tergodil,

It’s possible the numbness is coming from the spine rather than the pudendal nerve itself. If you haven’t had MRIs of your lumbar spine and sacrum/tailbone I think it would be good to request that your doctor order them.

@Tergodil and @Pentarou,

Did either of you ever take the drug Finasteride or Dutasteride for hair loss? Or any antidepressant medications at any point in time? Did you ever take Accutane?

This exact thing happened to me and I got tons of MRIs and other tests done including of my pudendal nerve and imaging showed everything was normal. I found out later on that it was induced by taking the drug Finasteride 1mg/day for 2 years. I have now been diagnosed by 3 physicians with this permanent condition unfortunately. I am only 30 and will likely have this for the rest of my life.

I hope this is not the case for you and you can manage to get this resolved.

Best,
Andrew
