I am bit struggling here, if the PN or PNE is left untreated can this cause muscle atrophy

Ultimately loss of use of legs or lower extremity functionality.

Any information on this would be helpful

Nope - different nerves innervate through the lower extremities, long term damage of the PN can result in impotence, urinary and bowel incontinence depending on where it’s affected. This would be late stage.
