Decompression surgery after 4 years of PNE

Hello,
After many misdiagnoses and various treatments for PN, I have decided to move forward with laparoscopic decompression surgery with Dr. Bautrant in November 2024.
My symptoms have only become worse since this started 4 years ago. I’ve only had short breaks in symptoms following nerve blocks.
My question is- have I waited too long for surgery? Is the nerve irreversibly damaged? November 2024 will be 4 years and 2 months since my injury that caused PN.
Thank you!

Hi Linzee,
I think it could depend on the mechanism of injury and the extent of injury. There are people who have waited for a long time who have gotten better after surgery. Is Dr. Bautrant giving you any hope for recovery? Knowing him, I doubt he would go ahead with surgery if he didn't think there was a chance for you to recover.

Hey, sorry to hear you've been dealing with PN for 4 years. It's great you've found a doctor and a plan.
As for waiting too long, it's a valid concern, but the fact that nerve blocks gave you some relief suggests there's still hope. Dr. Bautrant will assess the damage during surgery. Try not to dwell on the past and focus on the progress you're making now. You've got this!

Make SURE your surgeon plans on descarring your nerve. I had a classic entrapment between the sacrospinous and sacrotuberous ligaments. The majority of the surgery, time wise, was spent removing scar tissue.

May I ask how much the surgery costs for a foreign cirizen?
And how are you doing now after the surgery?
Thanks,
Bart
