New - having surgery w/ Dr. Conway

Hi,

I was advised to post this here. I also posted at TIPNA.

I'm having ilioinguinal neurectomy and obturator decompression in NH w/ Dr. Conway. I'm a 30 yr old female with no children and received this nerve damage as a result of lymph node removals several yrs ago.

I was just hoping to hear from anyone who had these surgeries and how their recovery went.

I'm not sure if I really belong here or not because PN/PNE was ruled out when I had my EMG, so I apologize for intruding on your website. I just wasn't sure where to get info and would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction and I can get out of your way.

I have a great deal of respect for all of you, most of you seem to really do you research on your conditions and really weigh your options when it comes to having surgery. I must say that I was quite different, once I had my appt. with Dr. Conway and he said he was willing to help me, I was overwhelmed with joy at the thought of getting my life back. This is silly now, but after I got out of my appt., I cried tears of joy that a Dr. would finally help me. So when he said he could try surgery instead of having me continue with useless treatments at my pain clinic, I agreed immediately.

My heart goes out to all and hope your painful suffering is resolved soon! I can truly empathize, although my pain may not be exactly in the same place as yours (just further out a bit towards my hip).

Thanks to this great website and forum contributors for all the info it puts out!

I'm actually having it this week. I'm very nervous, but excited at the same time. I desperately want my life back!

Hi Star,

Hope your surgery went well. It's fine to post about related topics here -- even if you think your problem may not be pudendal you are not intruding. Many of us have related problems with possible obturator and ilioinguinal nerve issues.

All the best,

Violet

Hi Star, Kat had obturator decompression with Dr. Conway and I believe GraceUnderFire had ilioinguinal neurectomy with him. You can PM them to see what their experience was like.

NYT,
I was reading your history at the bottom of your reply. I noticed you had surgery by a Dr. Howard. Was this Dr. Howard from Atlanta, GA? There is a Dr. Howard that does EMG's for Dr. Weiss in Gainesville, GA. I had a piriformis block this week. The physician used a MSK ultrasound. He found a broad band of scar tissue that stretches from my right hip to the other side of the buttock. He believes it may be causing my pudendal nerve symptoms. I am not sure where to go from here and wondered about this Dr. Howard you mentioned. Paulette

Star;
I was the one to tell you to try this site. PM Karyn. She's about 3 wks. out of surgery and she may be able to answer some of your questions.
Lots of Luck;
Doreen

Thanks everyone!

I'm actually 2 weeks out now and doing pretty well. It honestly wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it'd be, I'm not saying recovery is easy, just not as bad as I was expecting.
The first week was rough and once I took out the tubing from the pain pump, I felt much better.
I can't say enough good things about Dr. Conway and the staff at St. Joe's (with the exception of my night nurse, she's another story).
Anyway, I'm not sure yet how well it worked, but I definitely don't regret trying the surgery as of right now. I'm just getting bored and restless with this recovery time. I think since I have a renewed sense of hope that a Dr. is helping me, I feel like I want to and am able do more things and have a more positive outlook on life which I'm very thankful for.
