I have this week become an Aunt for the first time, I have one Sister who has just had her first baby. We are almost 6 years apart in age, and I have had my family ove 20 years ago and now she has embarked on this wonderous stage of her life.
Wow I as an Aunt and Big Sister had never realised how such an event would be so bonding to us both....of course all through the pregnancy we exchanged tips etc.....but once that lovely baby girl was born it took on another level.
Many hours have been spent on the phone trying to encourage my Sister to keep up with breastfeeding and offering many tips to help this fantastic art of feeding your young....at times there were tears on both ends of the phone...however now all is working fine and both baby and Mother are doing fine.
It is a different feeling for me.....I feel attached to this baby yet she is not mine....how weird is this? I suppose its like being a grandparent when you feel very protective of the baby!
I walked past a wonderful and very expensive childrens clothes shop yesterday and thought in a few years I might be plagued by my Neices request that she must have that coat, dress etc..........oh well I wil probably spoil her every now and then!!!!!
I have only seen photos of her ...but hope in a few weeks to get to hold her and get that lovely baby smell again and cuddle her with lots of love.
Just thought i would share my happy moment this week.
New Relations - New Role
New Relations - New Role
PNE started 2003 following Vaginal Hysterectomy, pelvic floor repair and right oophorectomy; eventually after many tests had BilateralTG surgery Nantes 2004; following this tried many other treatments including 7 day epidural, ketamin infusions to no avail; Trialed and was implanted with a Neurostimulator in 2007- Dr Van Buyten Belgium, this has enabled me to manage my pain much better.

Re: New Relations - New Role
Congrats! I am a one-neice aunt at the moment too
Now that my kids are definitely kids and not babies anymore, I am really starting to enjoy other people's babies with a new kind of enthusiasm. I am happy for you, It's great to celebrate new life!

pelvic pain started 1985 age 14 interstitial cystitis. Refused medical care from age 17, did GREAT with self care for years.
2004 PN started gradually, disabled by 2009. Underlying cause SIJD & Tarlov cysts
improved with PT & meds: neurontin, valium, nortriptyline, propanolol. (off nortriptyline & propanolol now, yay!)
Tarlov cyst surgery with Dr. Frank Feigenbaum March 20, 2012.
Results have been excellent so far; but I won't know my final functional level for a couple of years.

So happy for you and your growing family!
My little sister got engaged the week after my surgery and asked me to be in the wedding. I'm so honored and excited. Sisters are a wonderful gift from god and I'm so blessed to have one. She visited last weekend to share plans for the wedding and encourage me to keep fighting this illness. She is like a band aid for my heart and soul.
You and your new little one are in my prayers.
Kathy

Re: New Relations - New Role
Congratulations, Amanda! I was my nieces' Favorite Aunt for many years, then I had my child. I sort of fell down on the job after that, but they love me regardless.
Something about being too busy with high school and college and getting married, I think. But you are going to have a lovely time with this, I can tell, and I am so happy for you. Is there anything more wonderful than new life? I think not.

PNE as a result of childbirth, 2002. Treatment by the Houston team, with neurosurgery by Dr. Ansell in 2004. My left side ST and SS ligaments were found to be grown together, encasing the pudendal nerve.
I am cured. I hope you will be, too.
There are no medical answers on the forum. Your only hope is to go to a doctor. I was very happy with the Houston team, which has treated the most PNE patients (well over 400), more than any other US provider.

Re: New Relations - New Role
It is great news for you Amanda. My sister in law is very close to my daughter and she feels like she has two Mums.
My 3 big sisters left Scotland to come to Australia by the time I was 15 years old. I really missed them throughout my teenage years. I was in my mid 30's before I reconnected with them.
I have so many nieces and nephews I've lost count. Some of them I wouldn't even recognise nowadays. I'm the 9th of 12 children and the family is bigger than ever. Now I have Grand neices and nephews. Good job we're spread out in different countries otherwise Christmas & birthday presents would be a nightmare.
Enjoy the cuddles. Your niece will love you and her joy and warmth will take your mind away from pain.
