Gardening - A truly wonderful experience

Post by Amanda »

I have always loved gardening.....watching things grow months after you have planted them like bulbs is the most wonderful reward even if it comes months later on in the Spring.
Today I struggled in pain but managed on my knees to replant some pots with bulbs and plants that hopefully will see me through the Winter and reward me in the Spring!
I will watch them over the coming months for growth.....along with feeding and watering them if necessary unless the weather provides water!!!!

Some things are such a simple pleasure that we take for granted.

I have squirrels who love to roam around my garden....lets hope they dont smell out my newly planted bulbs!!! Did i mention the hedgehogs that roam at night....wow if the bulbs survive the predators I will be definitely rewarded in the Spring.

My advise to ev eryone who may be having a tough day is to get a pot and plant something in it and watch it grow!!!!!
PNE started 2003 following Vaginal Hysterectomy, pelvic floor repair and right oophorectomy; eventually after many tests had BilateralTG surgery Nantes 2004; following this tried many other treatments including 7 day epidural, ketamin infusions to no avail; Trialed and was implanted with a Neurostimulator in 2007- Dr Van Buyten Belgium, this has enabled me to manage my pain much better.

Oh Amanda - how I agree with you!

I too love the garden and it's one of the main things that frustrats me with PN. I do manage to do my garden still, but digging and bending to weed is out of the question. I do most things on my knees now, but have had some trouble with them recently. (it's life a bitch sometimes). But I'm not discouraged - I just adapt. I will carry on enjoying my garden until I drop. I have moved house recently to a bigger garden, but it's much more easy maintenance with some raised borders. Haven't planted my bulbs yet - better get on with it before the snow arrived!!

Watch that squirrel though, they are distructive little beggers!

Cheers

Hi ladies,
I love gardening, too! :D The way I've gotten around it is by placing the pots on my back stairs, so that they're chest level. My bag o' dirt is also on the stairs. Once I do my plantings, I have my husband take them away and then move on to the next!
I did this with my veggies, flowers, herbs, etc... Bending and weeding is completely outta the question for me, so by potting everything, I eliminated those problems. I also got planters that I could hang over my porch railings and the fence that encloses my small yard. This enables me to prune and fuss over my pretty flowers at chest level, too!
I live in the northeast, so the season for my beloved flowers are about to come to an end. :( I recently bought an AeroGarden (hydroponic), so that I may have lush, green things growing when it's freezing and snowing outside.
Yes, gardening truly IS a wonderful experience!
Warm regards,
Karyn

Just watching plants grow and thrive is a wonderous sight....it makes the moments when you crawled on your knees to plant things pale into insignificance.....I have some bulbs to get planted before the Winter sets in for real and this week I hope to complete this task.
Autumn is a great Season as we have some fine sunny days with cooler nights and early mornings....but yet the growing season is still here.
My Favourite time of year is the Spring when those bulbs shoot up...despite the cooler temperatures....they are tough for sure!
I cannot wait to see the fruits of my recent labours and see the daffodils shoot up.....they are my favourite flowers of all.

Hello fellow gardeners,

If you're able to, purchase cheap tables at yard sales and elevate your garden. Better yet, if you're handy or have a handy husband, significan't other, or friends...ask them to help you build tables that you can use to set your potted plants on. I used to visit a garden where most of their items were elevated. It made it so much more easier to manage the plants. Regarding the tables, know that you're going to wet them when watering your plants. I wonder if one can purchase such tables on the web??

Now if I can just take my own advice :-)
