my story & a few questions

Hello Everyone
I am a 40 yr old female. I have been having to strangest and strongest pain I've ever had for the last several months. If it were 24/7 I would think for sure that it is Pudendal Nerve related. However it isn't, It starts a few days monthly friend visits, last thru it and starts to ease after it is gone. There is a constant ache w/ what I can only describe as electric shock pain that comes and goes. The skin in that area as well as down my legs is hypersensitive to touch. Sometimes it hurts just to put on the lightest pair of dress pants I have. I've looked all over the internet and the symptoms people describe w/ Pudendal Nerve pain comes the closest to what I feel during that time of the month. Is it possible for it to only flare w/ my cycle and be ok the rest of the time. I'm a little confused. Any info would help me greatly. I am thinking of making an appt w/ a doctor. However I would like to gather everything I can to take w/ me b/c I doubt very seriously if any of the dr's here will have any idea what I am talking about.
Thanks for taking the time to read this---- Scooter_Nooch

You have so many nerve related symptoms so I can see exactly where you are coming from. Electric shock, hypersensitivity so typical. I wonder if there is some nerve irritation which isn't a problem until your period which puts extra pressure on the nerve? Makes sense to me anyway, although not something that I have suffered from personally. (post friend :) )
I'm sure younger ones will comment.
Take care

I wonder if a neurologist would be hepful here. I'm sure you've googled the heck out of it already. Or an OBGYN? Maybe they know how hormonal levels can affect nerves. I just don't know.

Scooter, it's a common problem for women to have worse pain around the time of their period. We speculated once on what the reason is -- probably due to the hormones and some of the pelvic tissues being more swollen/fluffed up during that time. Do you have any history of endometriosis? This can be one of the causative factors of pudendal neuralgia in some women. Some people go on birth control measures that stop their periods completely so as to avoid the increased pain.

Violet,

I don't have a history of endometriosis, however, the more I have looked into the cause of my pain, the more I am thinking that may very well be my problem. I have MANY of the symptoms of endometriosis. I hate going to the dr as I don't have a lot of faith in the medical community. My family has had some very bad experiences w/ substandard medical care in the last few years. Having said that I am in the process of trying to find a good gyn to see. Something is going to have to give. I have two good weeks per month and the other two are almost unbearable. I am generally a positive person, upbeat and happy by nature. I am not that person for those two weeks anymore. I am a single mom and have no choice but to go to work reguardless of how I am feeling. It takes every single drop of energy I have to get through those days. Thank you for your response. I will let you know what the dr decides about me.------Scooter.
