lower spine mri and duration of PN
lower spine mri and duration of PN
My dr. ordered a mri of the lower spine. Will this also look at the pelvic tissues to see if the pudendal nerve is entrapped or something? My second question is does pn every spontaniously go away for no known reason? Can it stay for life?
Re: lower spine mri and duration of PN
Hi Chex,
A regular MRI of the lower spine will not show an entrapped pudendal nerve. Before you have it done you may want to read more on the forum about Dr. Hollis Potter's version of the MRI for finding pudendal nerve entrapments.
PN can come and go or it can stay for life but once it becomes severe it doesn't typically go away on it's own. If it's mild you may be able to get rid of the pain through lifestyle changes but you may have to permanently avoid whatever caused it in the first place.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Re: lower spine mri and duration of PN
The lower spine MRI won't show anything in the pelvic area as Violet has said. It will rule out any lower back problems especially if you suffer from any sciatica. There are many treatments that you can try for PN, take a look in the Home section, many people have found improvements from them.
there is also a list of doctors who are PN aware, who are you seeing at the moment? what are they looking for on the spinal MRI do you know? Is the Dr who ordered the MRI PN aware?
take care

Fall 2008. Misdiagnosed with lumber spine problem. MRN June 2010 indicated pudendal entrapment at Alcocks canal. Diagnosed with complex variant piriformis syndrome with sciatic, pudendal and gluteal entrapment's by Dr Filler 2010.Guided piriformis botox injection 2011 Bristol. 2013, Nerve conduction test positive; new spinal MRI scan negative, so diagnosed for the 4th time with pelvic nerve entrapment, now recognised as Sciatic, pudendal, PFCN and cluneal nerves at piriformis level.

Agree with The Ladies...I had a pelvic MRI done at my hospital and, asked the radiologist reading the report to specifically look for PN entrapment. She said, no, she didn't see any problem areas. Yet, my Potter MRI showed abnormalties.
