I've been suffering from suspected PNE for 5 months now. I've quit work because it was too painful sitting all day in front of a computer.
My symptoms are burning in the rectal and penis areas, penis numbness, perineum tightness.
These symptoms are brought on when I sit down. But they also occur whenever I put pressure on my pelvis area. The pushup position gives me the same pain, so does lying flat on my back.
Is this normal or does PNE only cause pain when sitting? Does anyone else feel pain in other positions apart from sitting?
Apart from sitting does any other position aggravate you?

Reckless,
pre surgery I could not lie on my back, sides were it. Now I am finally switching to my back on the sofa so I don't throw my alignment out. Pre and post surgery are really different but I am glad some things are getting better and I hope that comes to everyone. Good luck

Re: Apart from sitting does any other position aggravate you
I have PGAD and I have a lot of trouble sleeping on my sides.. My hips hurt really badly and sometimes I suffer from Restless Legs Syndrome. It helps when I lie flat on my back but I hate to sleep that way. Otherwise I sleep almost on my stomach, but that doesn't always help either.
When standing, if I reach high or bend over, it either causes pain or an orgasm. Never know which one will happen, and crouching to get something from under the counter or something that's fallen on the floor can be worse.. Sitting does bother me also, but if I slouch way down in the chair so I'm almost lying down, it seems less bothersome for me.

On the road of discovery to see what is causing my PGAD.

Reckless, I had pain in all positions although sitting was the worst.
PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Reckless,
I had pain in every position. I still have to sleep on my stomach even today. Pressure is definitely more painful when sitting. Walking uphill or up stairs always aggravated the pain. I remember the doctors asking me if there is anything that helps reduce the pain and I told them that the only time I don't feel pain is when I'm asleep. Warm shower or swimming pool always helped but only for the duration of being in the water.
Air cushions help to raise the perineum and rectum off the surface but I always had severe pain in my buttocks and back of thighs too. So no matter what cushion I used it was still damn painful. 4 years after PNE surgery, I can now tolerate sitting for much longer periods but still need my roho cushion.

2004 PNE following vag. hysterectomy and A & P repair. 2007 TIR surgery France. severe entrapment at Alcocks canal & SS ligaments . Have my life back. 90% cured. No longer have medical appts.or physio. Some pain remains but is tolerable. 2012 Flew from Australia to the UK without pain flare. Very manageable. Almost back to normal. Now hold support group meetings at KEMH Subiaco Perth WA. Every 2nd Sat. of the month. Still pace my activities. PN doesn't dominate any more.

Did anyone else ever have or still have moments of painful shock like tingling across the umbilicus? I remember complaining of this for days before I started having symptoms in the pelvic floor/genital region. I sometimes experience this same symptom but very seldom. I had it yesterday for about 3 seconds. A quick, short shock like tingling in the middle of my tummy. Just wondered if anyone else has this and is it related to PN?
In hindsight, I think it was my very first PN symptom. My doctor told me to eat to eat more cabbage when I tried to explain this type of pain.
