Post by lightmail »

Has anyone had an ultrasound guided block? Was it accurate . Are they as good as c.t. guided blocks? Does anyone know anything about these type of blocks. Thanks ...Robert

Dr. Jordan in Santa Monica uses ultrasound and he's considered one of the best for nerve blocks. The Canadian team uses ultrasound and I think Dr. Aszmann's team does also.

It's my understanding that CT guided blocks do not visualize the nerve itself but rather the landmarks around the nerve. There's a good dose of radiation with a CT guided block. Ultrasound would also use landmarks but depending on the resolution, might be able to detect the nerve itself and would have no radiation. If I had a choice, I would go for the ultrasound blocks, especially in the hands of an experienced physician.
PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Hi Robert,

I had a nerve block done by Dr Attaman in Seattle and I think he used ultra sound for guide. You can call his office if you want to know for sure.

I am also scheduled for ultrasound guided Alcock canal block, 19th June.
I think that in some aspect ultrasound guided block is even safer than CT guided, becuase ultrasound device is able to visualise nerv itself (although not very good), I think that especially dorsal nerve block is safer with ultrasound that with CT (dorsal nerve is located quite superficialy and therefore visible for ultrasound).
summer 2009 - episodic post ejaculatory pain,
early 2010- major flare-up, chronification
february 2011 - ESCW wave. major flare-up, lasting 5 months
february 2012 - diagnosed CPPS with irritation of pudendal nerve, hypog. plexus block
june 2012 - dorsal nerve block, no relief
2013 - starting PT with moderate results
2014-2017 better periods interchanging with heavy flare ups
2018 first long remission (several months)
2019-2023 most of the time almost assymptomatic with cca 2 flare ups yearly
