Sitting:(((

Hi again,
Also, any suggestion on sitting. I'd love to quit my job, but if I want to get treatment for this awful pain, I need the insurance. I am a secretary and sit in front of computer for up to 10 hours. I'm sure this contributed to my pelvic pain (possible PN/PNE) as this all started in March when I went to pick something up at work. Thought I pulled a groin muscle, went to Dr./PT but kept working. Sitting was excrutiating! I since have gotten a keyboard and monitor lift which allow me to stand for most of the day. But to really concentrate I sit and it makes my muscles tense and spasm. I got a breast feeding pillow over the weekend to try. Sitting on it as I type. It seems to be making it worse!! Any other ideas?? I need my job. Thanks.

Katerine,
see the seating and physical lifestyle section for cushion options and ideas. May need to look at current and earlier posts. I made my own after trying many frrom garden kneeling cushions, velcro and a fleece top hard to explain but the U- shape was the idea to cut from the kneeling cushion but I needed the opening clear to back and IC cushions did not work for me. The idea is to have the sit bones Half on and off the inside of the U-shape to relieve the pressure.

K, all the best with this.
I've made various U shaped cushions from foam. The best I've found is a relatively hard foam used for exercise mats. It does not compress too much, so keeps the weight off the nerve. Still gets uncomfortable after an hour or so, but it has been a life saver for me. I take a template of different seats around the house and then have the foam seat cut exactly to fit. That means as much of the rest of your legs take your weight.

Another solution that has been very handy for being out and about has been my two 'foam obelisks' (as in 2001 Space Odyssey). Seriously, these have been very good. They are made from the kind of black foam used in camera cases, harder than the foam I use at home, so they don't need to be so thick. You have to cut the rectangles according to your own size. You place on any chair or bench leaving enough of a gap in the middle, then sit. For me it means that if I am out and I see a hard bench, I can sit. They are not so good on small round chairs, or very soft furnishings. They also very discrete. I have gone into restaurants and deployed them, they neve seem to catch anyone's eye.
