Does anyone have written links or medical documentation of negative complications, side effects or even horror stories of their nerve blocks? I need to know the whole picture. Please help.

I was told in 02 that there were no negative side effects. After my second injection my symptoms got much worse plus I got new ones. Just my personal story. I never did get back to where I was. I would give anything to be in the shape I was in before second block.

Not much info out there, but I did find this:
http://www.nysora.com/regional_anesthes ... hesia.html

My story regarding blocks is similar to Rays. I was also told there were no significant negative effects .... just possibly "some hi-lighted" pain. Well, my pain after the second round of blocks felt more like FLOOD LIGHTED. Cue the sirens, bells and whistles. These out of control pain levels lasted a minimum of 4 weeks after the blocks, before returning to my normal, debilitating base line. I also developed severe ischial tuberosity (sit bone) pain, which is still ongoing, 3 years later.

This doesn't happen to everyone, but it definitely does happen.
When are you scheduled for the block?

Dancer,

Have you been checked for a labral hip tear? It is apparently common among dancers and runners and could be contributing to your hip pain. You would need to see an ortho surgeon who can order an MRI.

I don't know of any medical documentation but I've heard of numerous people who have had problems from nerve blocks. Are you having post-nerve block problems?

I too dont know of any published medical information regarding the negative effects of nerve blocks; I was warned to expect a flare up of pain levels which i did experience for several weeks after each nerve block but my levels subsided to my "normal" levels in time. I did not gain much benefit from nerve blocks however they did prove in a diagnostic manner to prove where my pain was coming from.

Had nerve block yesterday at Hopkins. Boy i felt great all day. Now today i feel lousy. Doc said to expect flare for 2-3 days. I still have heard only maybe one or two people who ever improved from these blocks. Anyone have a flare and then get better?

I've had three, and had pain flare several days after each one, followed by a return to normal pain levels. No long term help at all but one of them was positive for diagnosis.

As of last Thursday, March 21, I have only had one nerve block injection and it actually made my pain worse and even more constant than before. On Tuesday, I am going back for a pudendal injection to see if that works. My doc originally went with another type of injection, but my doc doing the injection already had the pudendal injection on his mind to the point he had his nurse make a note to call me back in for a new injection the next day. Good luck. I hope my next one works.

Can anyone tell me exactly what is injected during a nerve block? I assume it's a steroid but is it Kenalog? (Triamcinolone). I was given two shots of kenalog some years ago without being told what they were and it made me dreadfully ill for two weeks. I was throwing up every 10 minutes within half an hour of the injections and was sick and dizzy for a full 2 weeks. These were injections into the hip not nerve blocks.
