SI/ST Ligament Entrapment and Hip Flex

Can anyone help me understand the mechanics of the entrapment at the Sacrotuberuos and Sacrospinous Ligaments? Concerning hip flexion if one squats down to pick up an object and experiences pain presumably from the stretching of the nerve due to the impingement between the ligaments. Why does one not experience the same pain squatting on the toilet set with about the same angle of hip flexion?

I've wondered the same thing myself.

Dr. Jerome Weiss's article has one of the best explanations for mechanisms of entrapment that I have read. You can start reading on page 9 of his article at this link:

I think there are different mechanisms of entrapment and for some people sitting on a toilet seat doesn't bring any relief. Some of these mechanisms of entrapment are just theories, others have been determined by physicians studying cadavers.

Here's a link to Robert's explanation for what happens when you sit: http://pudendalhope.org/node/45

I wonder if those cadavers did ever complain with pain related to PN/PNE ?

I just spent nearly an hour reading and rereading to comprehend at a miniscule level (not to mention lay persons), the article by Roberts, referred to regarding Hip Flexors & Pain or no Pain while sitting on toilet.

To me, this article was so very enlightening and reassuring that there is hope for us PN sufferers out there if we are patient and try to find the right team to help them help us. Currently, I am being treated by several specialists in Pelvic Floor Pain.
After 4 mos of PT my Physician said Botex injections were something to consider. I said I'll keep working with the PT for now.
My progress was evident until I took a trip (again) in a car and sat for 4 + hours as well as dealt with and continue to deal with emotionally heavy family issues.
I am now back at square one...

Nevertheless, this article is one to print out and keep at the ready. Thank you so much for posting the info for it.
