Sciatic pain after block

Hi,
I'm new here. Been having PNE symptoms for about a year. A week ago I went into hospital to have a nerve block which was done under x-ray. While the procedure was taking place had huge amount of pain on the right side injection. The left side wasn't half as bad. The anaesthetist doing the procedure kept saying something about not being able to get full picture on x-ray which didn't fill me with confidence.
Since then the PNE pain went for about 3 days (Which must prove the PNE diag) but is back now but I've also been having Sciatic pain down my right hip and leg. Best described as it feels like you do when you hit your funny bone on the elbow. Been getting pins and needles in the right leg as well.
Do you think he hit another nerve while doing the procedure? Has anyone else experience this and how long did it take to calm down. I know I'm only a week in but worried that I've got yet another pain to condend with now on top of PNE pain.
Thanks - Andy.

Sciatic pain is sometimes reffered as the post-block complication. This should settle down, but might last weeks.
I am also afraid of such things, heading tommorow for bilateral Alcock infiltration.
Praying for good outcome.
Today and yesterday I had quite good days, having the pain only 2/10 on VAS. Hope that it will keep on.

Hi Andy,
Yes, it's possible another nerve is irritated after the injection. It's not unusual to have a pain flare-up for a month or so but hopefully this will calm down soon. Maybe if you increase your pain meds and use alternating ice and heat frequently (always end with ice) this will help it to settle more quickly and prevent it from turning into a new cycle of pain.
Best,
Violet M

I had sciatica for five months following a nerve block injection. Thank God it finally went away.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. Great to find somewhere to discuss with others who know what you're going through.
Andy.

hello, sorry for my english, I'm Italian.
to respond to damage from blocks .... I January 31, 2012, a terrible pain in the anus, perineum to the sacral roots, all'ischio electric shock .... excruciating pain in the anus and vagina burns as hot .....
I definitely can not sit down ..... and 'indescribable pain.
Even underneath electric shock to the foot, and pain in the thigh (sciatic nerve)
I had a minor problem and a block has ruined me.
Made in Italy by Dr. Vincenti, without guide or fluorescens tac ...
THEN THE BLOCKS ARE ALSO VERY DANGERUS AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU BETTER THEN ......
FOR ME 'ALWAYS WORSE EVERY DAY .....
NOW I AM TRYING TO MAKE A SERIOUS MRI IN USA (try Dr. potter, but not 'more' to HSS signature .... only the MRI, but does not see more 'patients .....
I'm desperate ... because of bloks .... ...... beware!
ciao a tutti
Janet

So Sorry to hear this Janet,
I hope that you can get something done about the pain you are in now.
I wonder if the problem involves your piriformis muscle as the pudendal and sciatic nerve runs very near and the sciatic nerve sometimes runs through this muscle. I also get flashing pains to my feet and back of thigh as well as PN. You have been very unlucky as some people do say that they have worse pain after a block but it usually settles down in time. It is not fair that you have had to suffer this from something you hoped would make you better.
Take care.
Helen

Hello Helen, and thank you for your answer ..... In Italy is very difficult to get answers about what is was done with the bloks, really DOCTORS HERE DON'T KNOW ...... then the first step for me and 'diagnosis.
I still have not decided whether to do the MRI by Potter (I'm having trouble find her, not ricece more 'all'HSS NY) or by Neurography Filler.
I read in your story that you saw Filler, did his nerography?
You made it to London?
YOU did the botox ..... you're better now ...?
What about Baranoschi London ..?
Thank you very much ....
ciao Janet
