Hi,
i would like to know whether or not unitedhealthcare HMO covers the pudendal nerve decompression surgery. Does anyone on this forum had this insurance? Can you tell me the process and how this can be done?
Thanks.

Jimmy, I'm quite certain UHC was on the list that a former PN patient compiled of all the company's who had paid for PNE surgery. My guess is the safest way to know whether they will pay for it or not is to get pre-authorization. You should have a plan book that tells you how to do this -- or call the 800 customer service number on the back of your card. You could request them to assign you a caseworker to assist you. There was a time when I had an insurance caseworker who helped me through the maze of insurance pre-authorizations and claims.

Best,

Violet

I have UHC and it covered both of my pudendal surgeries with Dr. Hibner. Dr. Hibner is in-network for UHC. However, like Violet indicates you really need to check with your UHC because there is alot of variation between plans. The doctors office should also be able to tell you their success with getting UHC to cover pudendal surgery.

Does anyone remember the member's username that made the list of insurances that approve surgery?
Humana didn't even approve the anesthesia for the block with a note and at the bottom of the statement read : As a result of the assessment process, a physician panel has determined there is insufficient evidence to support the safety and efficacy of this service. Oh, this makes me so mad...let one of them on the board of review go through this and see how they feel about "insufficient evidence" :x It takes a lot to get me mad..

Rea, I remember a member named LesM who made a list of insurances but that was on the old forum that no longer exists and Les isn't an active member anymore. If you are thinking of the TG approach, there are several peer-reviewed articles on the publications page that support it so you may have to appeal using those articles. The Nantes team, the Houston team, and Hibner have published. There are some articles listed on this page http://www.pudendalhope.info/node/23. Dr. Hibner's is on the publications page. Here is the link to it: http://www.pudendalhope.info/sites/defa ... Hibner.pdf

Here are some articles on nerve blocks. http://www.pudendalhope.info/node/25#Nerve_Blocks There may be more in pubmed central that we don't have listed on the forum and nerve blocks may be mentioned in the publications by Hibner, Nantes, and some of the other docs.

Good luck,

Violet
