Lyrica side effects

I'm very weary of medications as I tend to be very sensitive to just about everything. My doctor gave me a prescription for Lyrica over a month ago and I've yet to fill it. In researching the side effects online I see that people report worsening mood, extreme suicidal thoughts and attempts, stuttering, hair loss, eye sight going bad and more. All those scare me but especially a change in mood and suicidal thoughts scare me as I'm already dealing with major depression. My doctor is ok with me taking the Lyrica but I'm wondering if those who take Lyrica can tell me their experience with it so I can decide what I want to do.

Thanks,

Shana

Well, one of those taking Lyrica (pregabalin) would include me. And it certainly has worked.

I have tried it before - we took the dose up to 300mg, and it worked pretty well. I wasn't painfree, but the pain relief was really good, the best thing I'd found, in fact. I had no major side effects apart from some fuzzy thinking and some memory problems.

This time I am taking it together with topiramate which enhances the effects of GABA medications - also the side effects. It also has side effects of its own, but that's another story. Anyway it means I am able to manage with a lower dose of pregabalin/Lyrica. And this combination really is amazing for me, because I have been effectively painfree for a while now.

I have not had any of the effects that you mention. I have had difficulties with slower thinking and memory problems. These were particularly evident when I stepped up the dose from 175mg to 200mg daily - remember, this is with 100mg topiramate, so is the equivalent of a much higher dose without topiramate. It took about a month of waiting before this eased to become manageable.

I am now stepping the meds down, very cautiously and slowly, under careful supervision. Because I have now been effectively painfree under this combination of meds for several months, we are hoping that the nerve has been 'reset' to some extent in much the same way as happens with a ketamine reset.

So far I am down to 150mg pregabalin, topiramate still unchanged at 100mg. And so far so good.

I do hope you find something that works for you, shana.
