Please can anyone recommend a PN aware Physio in the UK especially in the North? The list only has one in Scotland and one in Ireland!

It may be worth just contacting Maeve Whelan in Ireland Chrissy.
I rang her and was given the name of Ruth Jones - who i am afraid is in the South. I have read though that Maeve Whelan trains other people to be PN aware so there may well be someone in the North now.
The phone call to Ireland did cost a bit more than usual uk - there are her phone numbers with websites given under the Irelands PTs listed on here.

I have been seeing Ruth for a few months now and just thought you might find the following points helpful. Make sure you are quite clear what it is you need Ruth to know about your pain problem before your appointment. Take notes with you, many medical appointments have taught me that makes sure I say every thing whilst at the appointment. At my first appointment quite a bit of time was spent discussing with Ruth my pain issues, then a thorough physical examination and range of tests. At the end I had some physio treatment. In subsequent appointments I have had more physio and less talking. I am still finding the sessions both physically and mentally exhausting and I invariably fall asleep on the way home. Luckily my husband is able to drive me to see Ruth, so I hope you will not be driving yourself. I know some of Ruth's patients travel by train and have a taxi to where she practices.Good luck with your appointment.

Geraldine, thanks for replying. My husband is driving me and as it's at least 5 hours I will have a nice long sleep on the way back!
I am sending through scan reports, pain scale, and brief medical history.
When I spoke to Ruth on the phone she was so lovely to me and seemed to really want to help but more reassuring was that she seemed very knowledgable. But we will see how it goes next week. I will update everyone.

Just wanted to add to this thread that I have seen Ruth Jones and she is excellent and she believes that I can make a recovery by doing Physio and trigger point release which she has even taught my husband to do on me. Would recommend to anyone in the uk

Chrissy,
Glad to hear the update, finding someone in the know is a relief and btter yet that can get to recovery. My PT taught my husband a way to reset my alignment and connective tissue release, both can keep me in better shape. I hope it can give you quick and lasting relief.

Hi Geraldine and Chrissy really glad PT seems to be having a positive effect. Are there any tips or advice you could offer as I have my first session next week but sadly the PT has not treated PNE before but seems willing and able to embark on this journey with me?
Just wondered if anyone has seen a PNE specialist in Wales in the UK recently, have spent hours researching but to no avail.
Hope you continue to make steady progress and to janets husband aswell

You could contact Maeve Whelan in Dublin to see if she knows anyone in your area who has taken her seminar on treating patients with PN pain. I believe she keeps a list of people who have. You can find Maeve's contact info at the bottom of this page:
