pelvis instability
I am a PNE patient. I would like to have surgery by TG approach. I know Ansell and Robert perform traditional TG approach which cut SSL. However, I am wondering whether cutting SSL may lead to pelvis instability. My first question is what symptm of pelvis instability. The second question is the probability of pelvis instability for the TG approach cutting SSL. Does anyonre who have been performed TG approach have pelvis ability? Or anyono with TG approach did not have pelvis instability. Your response is critical for my decision.
Re: pelvis instability
Dr Ansell does not do surgery anymore.

Re: pelvis instability
I had bilateral TG surgery in the UK in Jan. I now suffer with back pain and every physio thAt has treated me is horrified my ligaments have been cut. I am still in chronic pelvic pain. Good luck with your decision
Re: pelvis instability
I have seen it written here that there is no proof of ligament cutting causing pelivic instability and not the SS ligament. However it did seem very coincidental I had no back pain or other SIJD issues prior to surgery (someone said this could be do to starting to do things again). Anyway I am finally having less instability issues these past 6-9 months but can stilll go out of whack if I lift and twist (twist is the culprit), I do try to use an SI belt when cooking. To get to where I am I did a lot of PT, acupuncture a few sessions of chiropractor with all of them realigning me. Also do core strengthing exercises as well as I did core strengthening through water therapy. Oh yeah pain management did some SI injections. I continue acupuncture and some core exercises. I was going downhill rapidly prior to surgery so I do not regret it as I think I would have ended up 24/7 pain level 10. Just wish the instability could have been avoided?

2007-08 pelvic muscles spasms treated by EGS. 6/27/10 sat too long on hard chair- spasms, EGS not work Botox help, cortisone shots in coccyx help, still pain, PT found PNE & sent me to Dr Marvel nerve blocks & MRN, TG left surgery 5/9/11. I have chronic bunion pain surgery at age 21. TG gave me back enough sitting to keep my job & join in some social activities. I wish the best to everyone! 2019 luck with orthotics from pedorthist & great PT allowing me to get off oxycodone.

Re: pelvis instability
It tends that the likelihood of pelvis instability is high after cutting SSL. Does pelvis instability cause cause foot pain when you walk or stand still.
Re: pelvis instability
I have foot pain ( really large toe pain) that started from bunions many years prior to PNE but nothing worse since then. Good luck.

Re: pelvis instability
There are 2 people I know of who have posted about pelvic instability problems after TG surgery. PierreQC had surgery from Prof. Robert and I think Christopher had surgery from Dr. Ansell. If you do an advanced search on their posts you will find what they said.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Dear Violet
Thank you for your response. I know you have been herr more than ten years.
According to your experience here, what is the probability of pelvis instability after cutting SSL. I know you do not have pelvis instability after your surgery.

Re: pelvis instability
Does man rarely have pelvis instability after cutting SSL.
It tends that pelvis instability most occurs for woman who cutting SSL.

Re: pelvis instability
I don't know what the probability is of developing instability after having either the SSL or the STL cut. The two people I mentioned who have posted on this forum were both men who had the STL cut. There was a survey on the old tipna forum on who developed instability after TG surgery and I don't remember how many were men or how many were women.
When I went for the TIR and had only the SSL cut, I went knowing that I could have the more complete TG approach later if needed. Thankfully I didn't need it but I do believe the TG approach has better visualization and access to the ST ligament if the nerve needs to be released from that ligament.
