Dr. Echenberg in PA?

Post by LindseyD »

Hi, I don't know if I am posting this in the right section or not.. forgive me if it's in the wrong place.

I was wondering if any of you have ever been to see Dr. Echenberg in Pensylvania at the Echenberg Institute for Pelvic and sexual pain? He treats IC/PN/and all kinds of pelvic problems...

I found his practice on google.. It almost sounds too good to be true but he sounds like a great doctor. I called and got some information today.
They use medications, nerve block injections, bladder instillations (if you have IC), botox injections in the pelvic floor, physical therapy for pelvic floor, and mind-body relaxation training.

My biggest fear is trying things that will make my problems worse. I will have this fear no matter where I go... Especially when a dr. might prescribe instillations and nerve blocks. I simply have gotten to wear I don't trust doctors anymore. I've had a lot of pelvic problems after one single UTI and doctors can't figure it out. Its a hit and miss, trial and error illness. Is it an undetected infection? who knows? Is it neurological? who knows... Is it PN? WHO KNOWS? I'm not getting better yet,but I don't want things to make it worse.

I feel it's hard to find a doctor who can truly help me as I am not average, although I'm sure most of us feel that way. My biggest bladder symptoms are just the constant feeling of needing to go. I void normally. It's not OAB. The reason I came to this site is because I started having vaginal aching around the vulva, that comes and goes, and aches or tingly sensations that moves from my buttocks, thighs, and feet. I feel something is up with my Cyntral Nervous system. It's hard to decide what doctor to go to and who to trust.
This doctor does nerve blocks, botocks, and other things...
Has anyone seen him before?

Hi Lindsey,

I haven't seen Dr. Echenberg but I know someone else who has and I have emailed with him. He is a very caring doctor. I think as with all docs, there is always a slight risk of getting worse if you have invasive therapies such as injections. If there are other conservative therapies you can try before opting for invasive therapies, that is the safest route to go. If there any pudendal neuralgia PT's who specialize in treating PN near you, that might be something you want to try if you haven't already -- before traveling for treatment. If you do decide to opt for nerve blocks, Botox, etc., Dr. Echenberg is very knowledgeable.

Take care,

Violet
PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
