lyrica advice

Post by esthome »

I am on lyrica 200mg so far but it has done nothing for my pain. My Gp has advised me to go up to 300mg in total but I'm beginning to wonder if there is any point. It has caused me to have low blood pressure so I feel dizzy upon standing but I can deal with that as long as I see the benefits of taking it. I've been on it now for approximately 6 weeks increasing slowly. I really want this tablet to work for me so am I being impatient or do I need to continue and maybe increase past 300mg. I'm also confused as to why I'm getting new nerve pains, jabbing in perineum area/ inner thigh when I'm on this and amitriptyline. I thought the point of medication was to block pain.

I also start physio next week. Physio wants to try desensitization. I'm scared it will flare things up but I can't carry on the way I am

Any advice is much appreciated.

Before TG surgery (2010), Lyrica at 300/day took 6-8 weeks to kick in and gave me a 30% decrease in pain - it helped take the edge off. It was not a gradual change, rather a prompt decrease in pain at that point. 600/day is the max allowed, I believe, so you are well below that value. IMHO give it more time IAW your doctor.

Cyclist till perineal pain onset R side (Apr'08). Dx with PN (Aug'09). Lyrica gave 30% pain reduction. Potter MRI (Oct'10) validated at surgery with Dr Hibner (Nov'10) - found nerve attached to scarred STL. Now sitting 10 hrs/day vs 1 hr/day pre-op. Occasional MRI-guided steroid injections by Dr. Jan Fritz at Johns Hopkins. Surgery video = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FDwana6SQU

Deep neuropathic burning pain flares have been gone since surgery...Grateful to Dr Hibner.

The specialist I went to uses 600 per day. It only took the edge off for me. Never complete relief of pain.
