success with meds

Post by kayekaye »

I just had my first injection did zilch was told to come back in 6 weeks then 6 weeks again and then maybe another method under local anesthetic. I am considering taking oral or suppository pain meds. For some strange reason the gyn who admiinistered the block has a female pelvic practice with excellent reputation near Philadelpia will not prescribe oral drugs I may have to go back to my primary, or rectal doctor for any medication Of course i am scared of side effects like lyrica Is there a suppostories for pain. Valium did not do much good. Could i hear from those who are on pain meds. I may have wait more months for remedies and this has been going on since January took 5 doctors to not figure it out it was my PT who did If people have been to Phikadelphia doctors please let me know. the woman oi went to years ago for PSAS (which my PT eliminated) moved out of Philadelphia

B&O suppositories but I've heard you can't get them prescribed long-term since they have an opioid in them. What kind of injection did you have?

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

KayeKaye,
We have spoken through PM msgs but I thought Id reply here as well.
The type of suppository used depends on ur particular issues.
I use a combo supp with about 5%/ baclofen and 10% valium.
They don't help too much as, (they don't allow me to sit without pain)..... but here's what they do for me.
If I've been active. Ie ( doing an activity requiring some form of perching, kneeling "sitting" etc.) such as going out to dinner or driving very locally, I will flare with afte-pain (esp. with driving).
Then I put in the suppository, and it does calm that pain. I lie down and let the supp take action and later add ice and the flare eases.. a bit.
I also use them for a constant urge feeling I have to defecate... the suppositories 'push back' on that feeling a bit. Also I notice they sometimes help to relax my anal sphincters enough to poop ..sometimes wtihin a short time after using them. (My issue relate to tightness in that area.)
They also help a bit if my bladder urgency flares. My doctor says they can be used either vaginally or rectally He says the result is the same,..but I prefer to use them rectally as that's my pain area.
If I'm out for awhile I may use one to help me. The effect of these supps doesn't last long but it's worth it for me.

I have a pain pump. with a special button to press that releases meds directly to my spinal cord.
if I press that button, the effect doesn't kick in right away... no instant relief there,
So I go to the suppositories when I want instant relief, tho my doc and nurse urge to me make use of the pain pump meds.
That's another story so I'll stop here.
My pharmacist also suggested trying a valium supp separately..but my doctor wants me to keep things the same for now.
Hope this helps!

Hi Kaye Kaye,
So glad you are doing better. Finding the right PT is so important..
BTW is your analr-ectal pain throbbing like mine?.. contant throbbing /aching Mine comes from tension right at the opening...like a clenching fist.. It needs to learn to relax.
My PT is getting some kind of laser machine that is supposed to help with various issues so we'll see

BTW, sorry if I missed this in your former posts, but what cushion is helping you with driving? that's great!
Could you pls send me the name-- either here or by email... kmcgeed@optonline.net. Driving without bad pain would be wonderful!
My continued good wishes!

Hi Kaye Kaye,
I came upon some older posts.. and noticed u had rectal pain last year. You tried biofeedback and also found a cushion u liked.

I was wondering how you are doing, I hope well!
can you pls give me more info on the type of cushion u use to drive, and on the biofeedback?

My physical therapist has been my most helpful practitioner and has brought me a long way... towards healing.( I gained 30 lbs by eating normally again when I realized my "IC" was really Pelvic Floor Dysfunction , thx to her .. and a vast amount of knowledge through her studies of pelvic pain.

However biofeedback is not part of her treatment.
I do something with another practitioner - in which she puts a device on my ear, hooked up to a machine and watches my ablity to relax while I deep breathe according to her instructions.. Not sure if this is true biofeedback.
I had done it with a biofeeback machine years back with another PT ,, in order to see if I could relax my pelvic floor muscles.

I do the same deep breathing at night while trying to fall asleep and it helps but find it harder to do in the daytime in my active household..

If you are still online could u tell me a bit about the biofeedback and cushion that helped your rectal pain?
Thx very much!
