Dr. Carrillo and Dr. Benjamin-Pratt in Rochester, NY are now doing PN decompression surgery using a laparoscopic approach. They were both trained by Dr. Howard before he retired with this approach. Neither one of them have done many of these surgeries, maybe 6 - 10 each. They are very selective in the patients they choose for surgery.

I would love to hear how successful these laparoscopic surgeries are and how they qualify their patients.

Dr. Carrillo and Dr. Benjamin-Pratt have started to collect data on the results of their surgery to publish them. It will be along term study, looking at patients 18-24 months after surgery so obviously it will be a couple of years before they will have data. Plus, since they don't do a lot of surgeries it is going to take a while to have enough patients for even a small study.

As far as criteria what little he told me, you must meet the Nantes criteria for pudendal neuralgia and must have a positive response to a pudendal nerve block (ie pain is all gone). They are only doing patients that need one side done. I do not know what other criteria you must meet before they will consider you for surgery.
