Doctors in north west of UK?

Post by Hanah89 »

Hello,

Does anyone in the UK know of any specialists, pain doctors and PT's in the north west area? I'm willing to travel south if I have to but worried travel is going to be expensive and difficult travelling as I don't drive and it's a long way to go if I have to go for regular appointments.

Also is it easy to get referred through nhs or does it take a long time?

Thanks.

Hi Hanah,

Gosh this forum is very quiet! I'm hoping it's because there's some magic new treatment that's fixing everyone's pudendal nerve troubles and I'll be exposed to it soon! :D I don't think a lot of people respond anymore, which is sad. The US sub seems to be more active, but I think that's because there are more physicians and far more treatment options there, compared to the UK.

I'm not familiar with any Drs that way. But, you write to Drs in London or elsewhere such as Dr Greenslade, Dr Baranowski and ask if they can recommend colleagues around you. The alternative is to do an internet search and look for chronic pain neurologists on the NHS around you, so your nearest hospital as an example. Your GP should be able to help you with this, have you spoken to them?

In terms of time, it's a postcode lottery, as I'm sure you know. Some places there are loads of services but a long waiting time, other places there's barely anything and still a long waiting time while others are areas where you'll be quick to be seen. I don't think anyone can truly answer that for you, unfortunately. Again, your GP should be able to help you with this though, they could have a good idea as they may have referred other patients previously.

Good luck on your journey, very sorry you're suffering. I hope you find some relief soon, if you haven't already.

There was a doctor in Manchester call Winston DeMello and I think he was based at Wythenshaw.
PN diagnosed in 2009 by Dr Greenslade, Bristol
Symptoms for many years and numerous diagnostic tests
Currently controlled by meds - Venlafaxine and Lyrica
