Dear members,
I am new to forum. My pain levels are close to zero, numbness only after sitting, independent of sitting device.
Doctors advice me to take Pregabaline. Is there a chance that PN can be cured by this medications ?
If not, it does not make sense to me with such low pain levels
Kind regards, Alfredo
Pregabaline, Lyrica
Re: Pregabaline, Lyrica
Hi Alfredo,
I have never heard of lyrica curing PN. You might be smart to search for the underlying cause of your numbness after sitting and deal with the underlying cause rather than just masking the sensation with lyrica. But I could be wrong. Do your doctors have some scholarly literature that shows lyrica cures certain types of neuralgia? The only thing I can think of would be is if your injury to the nerve is already healed but your nervous system is still continuing to send the wrong signals, and that cycle needs to be broken. Does that sound like what is going on with you?

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
Re: Pregabaline, Lyrica
Hi Violet,
thank you for prompt answer. Yesterday I decided to start with Lyrica.
The reason is that my feet started burning since 3 weeks probably from standing too much, since I avoided sitting for 6 months.
The doctor (orthoaedic) advices me to take Lyrica to calm down the foot nerves.
I am also going to see a neurologist to clarify about polyneuropathy. Not sure whether PN can also cause these symptoms.
I will keep you informed.

Re: Pregabaline, Lyrica
Hi Werner,
Many PN patients have had problems with burning feet, especially if they stand too much. For that type of pain I think lyrica makes a lot of sense and even for PN too. But I'm not sure "cure" would be the right word to use because I don't think it will cure the disease. I had to avoid too much standing so I developed a lying down work-station so I could still use my computer when I had PNE.
My theory is that some people have a genetic make-up that makes it more likely that they will develop nerve pain. I could be wrong but I have read research that supports this theory. If lyrica helps and you don't have too many side effects I think it would be smart to take it to keep your pain levels low.

Re: Pregabaline, Lyrica
Hi Violet,
your answer helped me a lot to ivercome my anxiety about lyrica.
I take it now and get some relief.
Do you know, are there other options to treat burning feet syndrome ?
Somewhere i read that quiescing the sensoric foot nerves using anaesthaertics can be used.
Thank you and best regards

Re: Pregabaline, Lyrica
Hi Alfredo,
I think the options would depend on the cause of your burning feet. You can read the 2 pages at the following link for some more information. https://www.webmd.com/pain-management/b ... eatments#1

Re: Pregabaline, Lyrica
Hi Alfredo - how are you doing on Lyrica? I have problems with my feet - they go dead when I sit, and they burn. I've tried Benfotiamine but it hasn't worked yet.
Re: Pregabaline, Lyrica
Hi saint,
sorry for late answer.
Pregabaline (Lyrica) worked well for my burning feet problems.
Additionally I could sit for longer periods on special seats and have been pain free for several months
Even bicycle riding with a SQlab 600 active saddle worked well for approx 15 minutes.
But be careful with bike riding. recently i cycled a bit longer and the nerve is now excited.
Regards Alfredo

Warning: Terrible pain after biking
Dear forum members,
This is post is to warn you about bike riding and be very careful about it !
I was pain free for a long period and using pregabaline medication I gradually managed to sit on special seats for longer and longer times.
The last 2 months I even managed to do 20minutes bike rides to town using a special saddle and a sitting position on the back end of the thigs
and to go on long walks even up hill using sticks.
So life was really beautiful.
Since I assumedthat the nerve was close to be healed I did one longer bike ride of about 50minutes.
I had no problem during this ride but afterwards terrible pain in the whole area of PN developed
which is always there and wakes me up at night.
Questions:
Is there a chance that this terrible pain ceases ? In what time ?
What other options do I have besides pregabaline ?
is applying cold or heat an option?
If this is an infection of the nerve corticoid /cortison tablets could be used ?
Maybe someone or Violet could give me some advice
Regards Alfredo

Re: Pregabaline, Lyrica
Hi Alfredo,
Yes, I did think that you could have irritated the nerve with the 50 minute bike ride. Even a short bike ride seems risky for someone with a history of pn. I know I will never again get on a bike, use a step machine, hike, or do any of a number of other activities that I know could irritate the nerve. For me it's just not worth the risk. But since you went a long time without pain, I think you will likely return to that. It may just take a few weeks. Yes, I think ice and heat (e.g., heating pad, sitz bath) are good ways to control the pain. I use both.
