what about all the patients whose nerve blocks didn't work? what hope is there for them?
Why is it that some people respond to nerve blocks and not others?
maybe all their study shows is that people with less damage before are more likely to recover? although I'm assuming that the people who responded to nerve blocks had less damage.
but seriously, what about all the other patients? there has to be a better answer.
-straddle fall age 4-7 w/bleeding labia, tampons hurt in teens, papsmere started annoying pelvic 'tingling' & pne in 02
-obturator surgery w/ Filler in 05 (useless, created sciatic & plantar fascitis pain)
-TIR surgery w/ Bautrant in 08 and vestibulectomy in 08 in France (vest. removed pain w/intercourse, pain w/sitting increased post surgery)
-chronic fatigue & food allergies/migraines (gluten, milk) from pain meds in 08
-want a life back. I'm 34 w/8+ years of pain

Good question. I wish there was a better answer.

Actually, my nerve blocks were not all that helpful but surgery was.
PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

good to hear there's hope for people whose nerve blocks don't work, at least some of the time. thanks for sharing that info.

by the way, who did your nerve blocks, & were they ct guided? did you have any relief even for minutes?

Dr. Antolak did my nerve blocks. Two were done with fluoroscopy and one with ct guidance. I had partial relief with some of them but never complete relief. It wasn't like some people who get off the table and start crying because it's the first time in 10 years they didn't have pain. I still had some discomfort even immediately after the blocks.

There seems to be no reasoning about nerve blocks, I had severe nerve damage when I had my surgery yet the nerve blocks I had in Nantes gave me about ten hours of almost total relief from my pain.....it felt wonderful at the time and in my worse moments of spasms I try to relive those moments to calm me.
Mine were all with CT guidance....and I cried in sheer relief immediately afterwards at having found some way to combat the pain for a little while...once they wore off I found that my pain was incredible and the flare up that followed was terrible.
There ar eno hard and fast rules about nerve blocks Im afraid!
PNE started 2003 following Vaginal Hysterectomy, pelvic floor repair and right oophorectomy; eventually after many tests had BilateralTG surgery Nantes 2004; following this tried many other treatments including 7 day epidural, ketamin infusions to no avail; Trialed and was implanted with a Neurostimulator in 2007- Dr Van Buyten Belgium, this has enabled me to manage my pain much better.

interesting.
2010 - when dr. antolak gave me my nerve block ct guided, i had very little pain relief also, violet. only partially numbed some skin on the vulvar region. And my pain was worse for months after.
2004 - and when dr. renney gave me my nerve blocks ct guided, my whole pelvis was numbed like at the dentist... like a cold rock. a day of complete relief. no future help however.
2005 - when dr. filler gave me nerve blocks ct guided, my whole pelvis was numbed like like at the dentist... like a cold rock. again complete relief. no future help.
2008-2010 - when my pt's gave me finger guided nerve blocks (had about a dozen) only one or two gave any pain relief. no future help.
