Hi my pn friends,

Need some advice, I now have illionuigal neuralgia and have had 2 nerve blocks done within 3 weeks with no help. I have talked to my pain dr regarding the illionuigal nerve n he can freeze the nerve but will need to have it done every 3-6 months depending on how long I get pain relief or have the nerves surgically cut, any help would be appreciated in what u would do.

Thanks

Ezzl,

Do you have any idea why you have developed this new neuropathy? I'm wondering whether I'm not developing the same thing. Is it nerve "cross talking"?

Hi Ezzl,

I had the cryoablation done on my ilioinguinal nerve, twice. First time was May 2007 and then redone in February 2008, I think. At the time, I had gotten some relief from nerve blocks, but they only lasted a couple weeks at most. So the doctor offered the option of cryoablation hoping that would be a longer term solution. I was warned that it may need to be redone, but it also may offer permanent relief.

The procedure was actually fairly easy, and offered significant pain relief. When I had to have it redone, I didn't hesitate. Even if I knew I'd be going back every 3-6 months, I'd choose it again. It's been over 3 years for me since my last treatment, and I'm thrilled with the results. Hopefully the pain won't return now, but if it ever does, I'll be going back for the cryo again.

The only reason I'd hesitate in your case is that the nerve blocks didn't help. I'm not sure if that is an indication on how successful the cryo may or may not be.

Take care,
Anita

Just pain in the upper leg/groin area. No burning.

Good luck with the cryo and please let us know how it goes!
