Okay how long can a flare last? I have been in burning pain for 4 days and medication is not helping. I take Nucynta 100mg and Valium 5 mg. I am on fire and I am miserable. My local pain management dr is going to try a pudental block. I am not sure he has done this before but he answered all my questions concerning it. He said he will go in pass the bone in the lower pelvic area. I need some relief. Missy

Hi Missy,
I'm sorry you're in so much pain!

What brought your flare on? Did you over extend yourself somehow? Flares last anywhere from a few hours, a few days or even weeks.
Is your PM doc familiar with the pudendal nerve? I'm not trying to frighten you, but more often than not, the blocks will cause pain flares, too.
Hugs,
Karyn

The cause intercourse with my husband. I am afraid the block will cause a major flare. I always get flares after innercorse but they have never been this painful or lasted this long. Thanks for replying!

Oh, no! Well, I hate to say it, but at least you know what to avoid. Does it hurt "during", too?

Yes it does hurt during. I try to please my husband sometimes and endure the pain. I thought the valium would help during and afterwards but it did not. Missy

My pain level today is a 9. I woke up this morning on fire. I took Cymbalta, Nucynta, and Valium. I am praying it will kick in and calm things down. I pray everyone has a bless Merry Christmas. Missy

Missy, maybe you could add an ice gel pack to that list of meds. Sometimes ice works better than the meds do.

Missy,
My pain mgmt guy has never treated anyone with PN, but he has done several blocks on me. The ones I had before surgery never caused any flares. They also never helped the pain. I had one yesterday post surgery and it has actually given me some relief. I am still nervous it could cause a flare, I am hoping not.
I just wanted to add, when I talked to my surgeon regarding whether my pain mgmt guy should be doing this if he never has, he told me if he treats people with pain and does blocks and/or other injections, that he could do this too. He said it was not a difficult procedure for him to do. I do trust my pain mgmt guy very much. I think you may need to go with your intuition regarding your doctor. I really hope you get some relief soon.
